I've tried reading some haiku and most of what I've read agrees with what you say.  I have no idea what I'm doing here, but I'm glad you liked my effort.

I read somewhere that original haiku (crafted by Japanese poets I think) was focused solely on nature, but I have written a few (and read many) that aren't. I guess following the 5-7-5 form is enough to qualify...:) Poignant and clear expression of emotion. Kudos!
