Passionflower , The Indians are also catching up with the western world.
Men and women are both getting married for strange reasons like you said sometimes for money and sometimes for automobiles .It is not for spiritual or emotional attachment which can be had some where else .Thanks.

Afzal
Like I have said many times before...it depends on the people and the circumstances.  Not everyone is meant to be together.
Some people are harder than others to be able to find someone that they can be happy with and that can be happy with them.

Happiness is what you make it. It depends on your effort and your perception of things, as much as anything else.

Afzal. Sir you always please, in searching heart and mind, for answers
Speaking from the point of view of a male, when young, maybe our loins drive the wanting. Though our  elders may advise. Its uaully our needing, in making our mark. The beginning of our idependence, freedom in decisions but mostly the thought of having regular female company for the urge that defines a young male. Our thoughts then, if I remember correctly are seldom of nothing else but females. Also family, traditions, influence weather we stay together. Not always love ? If at the romantic end i.e Children and grandchildren, have flown the nest and the romantic last chapter is, hand in hand, into the sunset of love ever after then yes. Made in heaven, where else ? Though if this thought is true, then heaven is full of mistakes. In my humble opinion Thank you afzal for my chance in comment friend. Mike

It was interesting to read about the way you choose wives there -

Here in the USA, we choose very differently. I heard a hairdresser say once that she married this man because he had a good automobile.

Another girl married at 17 so she could move away from her parents. Here in Texas, there are a great many illegal aliens who are looking for a man to marry so they can get citizenship. They often have children and will accept an older guy or an ugly or fat man in order to become a citizen.

That would make a good short story.  I wonder if the girl ever got married.

All marriages are certainly NOT made in heaven, Afzal!
But they certainly have many good points, not least the chance to raise a family such as the one you describe. This can make the down side worthwhile and give life a sense of purpose.
