Julia,

I would feel very comfortable swearing on a stack of Bibles that I don't care. We all have our reasons for being here, for sure.  I think published authors fall outside the blogging for clicks thing most of the time.  I get great ideas for writing by bouncing things around here, even when it comes to the comments section. If writers don't use this stuff to get ideas, they're really missing out.

Still, I totally agree with you that it happens all the time here. There are about five regular ploys people use here that fall into the same sort of game, in my opinion. I wouldn't dare mention any since the last time I said something offhand, I started a war. Life is too short.

The number one reason why I know the ratings thing doesn't matter is that I STILL  have absolutely no clue as to how the whole ranking/rating thing works.  Sigh. :) I've asked a bunch of times, but I've never gotten a good answer.  I remember someone doing a post saying you should write in a category that no one else wants to do because you have a built in #1.  If a person does that, geez, that goes beyond obvious..and sad.  That may be how it works, but why would you go out of your way to write about stuff no one else wants to write (and probably people don't want to read)?  The whole technical end of Blogit escapes me.  It's sort of like my cell phone.  I bought a nice one this go around.  When I had to go to court Wednesday, they took it away from me. The guy said, "You can take photos with this cell phone."  I said, "Noooo, the phone may be able to photos, but the owner of the phone has no idea how to do it."  The manual is in my bookcase, and I swear I will read it one day.

Mercifully, I don't care anymore
I used to  and when I did I ranked very well. I still have a good number of readers and  put no effort into soliciting for readers. I used to put effort into that. If we are talking about honesty I think that people who do put effort into that stuff should be straight up and quit pretending they write 500 comments a day for fun

Hummm... maybe it's a ploy for clicks?

yeah that's it.

Julia
I think I care about being read, but as far as ranking...well it is highly over rated. Mostly I am here to have fun...

yeah--the definition of "literature" is: the opposite of blogging. hehe.

Quote from Doonesbury, "Foreshadowing, your clue to quality literature".
Hm, "literature" there's a concept.

Julia, for heaven's sake, you're at Number 2, your numbers are not exactly
dropping like a hot rock through butter, like some others.

Well, don't bow and scrape too low, Julia., the public is fickle, one

minute up, the next minute down, and you're runner-up, not even Miss Congeniality, so if I suddenly fall from grace, you're next up, and then .Dave.

Oh, my, will the crown ever return to its "rightful owner" and presumptive queen? Tune in! Will there be more contenders to the throne? There are how many bloggers here?  The possibilities are endless!  Hm, I wonder how that will set with those who are "happy to be in the top ten". Perhaps they will find themselves suddenly "bored with blogging" and have to spend more time doing something more exciting or important. Could happen, it's been done before!

Oh Bel I so love you,
cuz' you totally "got it" and you hit the nail on ze head with this: ...the better our ranking the more we are read. So whomever is doing it this time: BE HONEST!

that was what I tried to say in my post.

I guess that was my point with this--if they don't care that's fine... but then don't harp about it all the time!!

shelly, alf and jemmie--
see, the thing about it is, the two go hand-in-hand. I.e., if you are lowly ranked then you aren't being read!! At least not by many. Not that there's anything wrong with that. lol.

Let's face it

We call ourselves writers.  Well writers write in order to be read.  If we didn't care at least a little bit, we would get a notebook and write in that instead of posting it on the net.

Ranking is a nice ego boost but I don't have to and I don't think I have ever been #1.  What I look at are my comments.  If I have a number of comments I have at least inspired someone to think; isn't that why we do what do?

I get a little annoyed with those who go on and on about not caring about ranking.  We come here for a reason and that reason is to be read, the better our ranking the more we are read.  So whomever is doing it this time: BE HONEST!

LMAO, Julia., as they say, "Tell it to the Marines, cause the sailors

aren't buying it."  or  "Yeah, right, pull my other leg, it plays jingle bells".  I didn't start out caring about rank and ratings, but it is a sweet reward for toiling in obscurity, to find that there are kindred spirits who aren't buying every bit of bunk their sold.

So, we shall see, how it all plays out, because the game is afoot and the play is the thing!

A difference between receiving feedback and encouragement as opposed
to rankings. I truly have never cared about my ranking, but love comments of course!  I think some bloggers do protest too much about not caring - don't understand why they don't work/ write to rise higher, instead of wasting time complaining.

I'm with A Norseman
I just want to be read.  I don't really want to be number one or in the top 5 or top 10.  I don't want to have to come up with something to write about every dang day and comment on everyone else's writing all day every day.  I do have a life.

Just read me, please!

Julia
At first I thought you were talking about me...but I don't post about it so I am off the hook.  I for one honestly don't give a hoot what my ranking is, even back when I was more active all i really cared about was that I was being read, and I was.  The only way I would really care about it is if I made it my mission to be No. 1 or whatever, then I would be prepared to do so at any cost.

I think I've mentioned this in a post or two...LOL
honestly...I like to be read but I don't care about the rankings.  I can't say that I haven't been excited about being in the top ten either.

I think it's not that I don't care
if I'm being read, but I don't let "clicks" dictate my content in every post.  Sometimes yes, but rarely because this takes effort an I'm lazy when I'm tired.  I am a contract analyst. I come to blogit to relax. I don't want to analyze the mechanics of clicks.  And, I do contradict myself all the time. Every day in fact.  I would say being a hypocrite is just part of my personality. But, that's me. Take it or leave it.  Have a great evening
