Great post to share, MandaLee.  Everyone needs to know this information.   I got pulled over not too long ago because someone had stolen my front license plate and I had not noticed because I came to my car from the rear.   Later the police came to my home because the license plate was found on a stolen car with contraband in the trunk.

I have been pulled over twice...

And I could have used this advice those times. I think I did everything right. Both times it was in broad daylight.

Two things I've always wondered about, though. What do you do if the officer is pulling you over and there's no room on the right side of the road to pull over and stop? Do you just stop where you are, blocking traffic, or do you continue on to a place where there is room? This actually happened to me. Common sense suggested I just stop where I was, which I did and the officer did not complain. But still I wondered.

The other thing I wondered was, when the officer is finished and heads back to his/her car, how long do you wait before starting your car and driving off? It seems to me that, at a minimum, one should wait until the officer is back in the patrol car. But should one wait until the officer drives off?
