I'm not sure if I would call it luck.  There is some outside force.  No doubt there are times you are in the right place at the right time.  Still, personality wise, I know I keep putting myself in that place I want to be hoping that 10th time someone will let me in the door.

I agree  for the most part; but, I do also believe that we can change course. The effort might be immense, but some of us enjoy challenges.

I think everyone has a 'dream' of becoming something; it is just stifled through negative influences and fear. In this manner, I think we are pre-programmed.

I think maybe it is partly true.

But there is still free will. I think?

OFFBEATS, we are masters of our fate and captain of our soul only to
the extent of our share of luck allotted before by the God Almighty who knows better why He gives someone and why He deprives someone. We are never masters in reality but only after allotment.

I believe as a great poet once said " I am the master of my fate ...I am the captain of my soul"

This is an aside

I had totally forgotten about this.  Early in my freelance career, I wanted to write a round up article on the idea of success.  I sent a bunch of letters out to people like Charlton Heston, Hugh Hefner and the like. I wanted to know how they defined success, and if they considered themselves successful by their own standards.  It didn't work into an article because famous people want to be THE only star of something generally.

But I got this wonderful letter from the late James Michener, a US author, who did South Pacific, Chesapeake, Poland, and so many historical ficition books.  I actually use part of his quote in my resume that I send out looking for work because I agree with him so much.

He said something to the effect of this:

I know I'm a success because I'm 60 years old, and I've never been in prison or a nut house.

I feel that I'm one of those people who has to fight tooth and nail
For every bit of success. Nothing comes easy to me.

BritishIrish,I may agree with you partly so long as our success is not
measured with acquiring wealth .Thanks.

PostSmile! Hi .. I think that anyone can succeed in life if they are willing to work hard and learn from their experiences and not become weary while aiming for their goal. One must stay motivated and remember that success is not always happiness We can choose to remain where we are or move onward. I do see what you are saying but in my opinion neither luck or fate have anything to do with our success.

Oh! Now it makes sense!

I tend to think if one tries hard enough, one can succeed in
various degrees; however, what determines the degree of success is pure luck (the natural talent one is born with, and who one knows in life).

I was answering to your question whether I got up early so where was
I agreeing to which I shouldn't have agreed . Thanks . I did not reply to your comment. You know the reason of my restlessness.

I think you're right.  Moreover, it's not just the good luck that shapes our lives for good, if that makes sense.  The main life lesson I've learned is that the bad events in our lives shape our sense of morals, ethics, personality as much as any good event.  I think they are more important.  If you can survive a bad thing, learn from it, and keep moving forward, as you say, that's the key to success for me.  I equate persistence with success.

My view is that nothing is destined completely.  We make our own reality.
More so....success, failure....it's all in how you perceive things.
