You are correct. Although alcohol is not viewed as medicine...at least not here.
Yes, it is a way to escape problems that need to be dealt with in other manners.

Sweetie, In some cases the alcoholic thinks that he is perfectly alright
and the society is at odds with him. It is wrong notion that Alcohol is medicince often inspires alcoholics to remain addicted . Alcoholics have false belief that alcohol is the best solution to all their ailments and in fact it is a sign of escapism .Thanks.

.Dave, It is really very hard for an alcoholic to give up although he
may not like to drink he is compelled to due to addiction . An alcoholic faces helplessness and wishes a remedy which he can't get outside hard drink.

I would be surprised if he had any money with all his drinking, he must of been a functioning alcoholic

He was an alcoholic. It's sad. Being an alcoholic doesn't necessarily mean that one doesn't have anything to offer, but as long as the alcohol is in control, there is nothing else. He needed help. Unfortunately, with this kind of problem, one really has to WANT to be helped.

Affy, it's a serious addiction and affects many. And it's why, though I
drink often, I always keep it in check. To be an alcoholic means that you don't actually enjoy it, I believe.
