Marie-Claire, after coco-pops and magnolias
I'm trying for a sonnet - half-heartedly (see .dave.)  I'm glad you've enjoyed reading today. Amusing too that you and Taps both said the same thing about watching your food in a big family.

beautifully written, what a delightful story!
I love way you write, your style is so rich and warm. I can just picture the cute little boy too. As I recall I think I too was  afraid to leave the table too as we were a hungry horde of six children not including me.

And, we always fought the flies.  I can sure remember my mom with a white dishtowel flapping it over the table and to the door to shoo them out and away from the food.

Taps, it's funny how these things reverberate..
and I'm glad it did that for you too.  I guess he was afraid the waitresses would clear it away.  Which reminds me, my son always used to get me to keep an eye on his food if he had to do something else, but his concern was that a cockroach might get it in the thirty seconds he was absent  - not casting aspersions on my housekeeping, just that we lived near a forest and they would sometimes walk in under the door uninvited.

mneme, Loved it.  This brought back memories of my childhood with six siblings.  If one of us had to leave the table for something we always said, "Watch my food while I'm gone!"   LOL   With seven hungry children, I guess we had good reason.
