You're right. I'm the only one I see smiling and patting other kids on the head, or talking to them. Kids look at strangers and often wonder about them. To give them a smile or a kind word lets them know that some people are okay. To shrink away in horror validates the evil in the world. Good post.

We've heard that many countries
Have an even worse problem with sexual child abuse than here in America...it's a sad state of affairs worldwide.

This is an interesting post. I'm still thinking about it.

It's thought provoking for me because I was a cop for 12 years, 2 years of which was spent investigating sex abuse of children, and now I am working on getting my elementary education degree.  My teacher side would say that creating a sterile environment is not the best for children but I wouldn't sacrifice my job and my ability to support my family to prove it.  My cop side would say that there are sexual predators everywhere, even in Spain.  The dilemma arises from the fact that most sex offenders are people that are trusted by parents and initially by the child.  Do we never trust anyone?

Just my initial thoughts.  I have several tumbling around inside my head.  Thanks for the thought provoking post.

Thank you. Yes, I'm absolutely sure that you don't fail in this adult duty.

I read the London Times online every day, and almost every day there is some story of yet another adult being sacked/penalised/pilloried by sick-minded people for some clearly innocent show of affection to a child.

It fills me with disgust and outrage, and I am truly disturbed at what we are doing to our children.

And if I were a believer, I would thank God every day that I live in a clean, healthy society like Spain

Pat

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Unlike many folks, you actually read what I write, and post substantive comments on it.

How right you are!! There is a strong streak of what one can only call the ghoul in some people. In Victorian times, it was " 'orrible murder!!! Ripper strikes again!! read all about it!!"

Even our natural disgust and revulsion at the torture, rape and murder of children is being perverted into something profoundly unhealthy.

I don't care about my popularity, or otherwise , in here, but I do hope that many bloggers read my posts, get thinking, and discussing the issues. this is the only way that things can ever hope to change.

I could never walk past a child that was hurt and not do something to offer comfort.  I will admit I am ULTRA protective of my own because of my history.  But I try not to hinder her by my own concerns instead I try to educate, educate, educate so she knows what is OK and what is not.

Unfortunately, the predator with an unnatural interest in children
is not the only abuser.  There's indirect abuse as well. By that I mean the do-gooder who watches every news story, goes over and over the salacious details, and talks endlessly with others in "ain't it awful" dialogues -- feeling virtuous, but nonetheless having an unnatural interest in children and predatory behaviors.
