And 25,000 in Korea, DeIntinis. And thousands more in Europe, which is
far closer to the Middle East than Korea.  That draft notion has been nagging at me for some time now also.  Misdirection radar says that that "stretched thin" line about our military may be only a ruse to lull the world into a false sense of American inability to do anything.  Sort of a false information ambush.  I might be wrong, but don't be surprised...

Excellent observation, mellyn. He's no doubt rubbing his hands together,
muttering something about getting out of Iraq and stomping Iran and Syria's ass, using Iraq as a base of operations.  Heh, heh.

Hide your kids..
Depending on how this all shakes out, I would not be surprised to hear discussion of the draft.  Don't forget that we also have soldiers in Afghanistan.

I'M GLAD YOU MENTIONED IRAQ THEY HAD TO PUT IT IN THE BACK BURNER

Bush is so low in the polls HE doesn't want to hear about Iraq anymore himself .

Peace,

Our military is spread increasing thin across the planet and recruitment is
down.  We already act as the world's police force, going in anywhere where we may be needed.  And the president most certainly wants a war with Syria and Iran, so "defending" Israel would be a perfect excuse for him to attack them.  Increased fighting would give rise to reinstating the draft.  Hopefully, we'll see none of this.

A friend of mine asked the question of whether we could ever "run out of soldiers" ...

Which seemed stupid at first. However, I suppose, theoretically speaking, if the war in Iraq literally never ends ... plus the U.S. is drawn into defending Israel ... plus North Korea sinks a Carnival Cruise ship or something ... plus so on and so forth.

It doesn't live under the bed ...
It doesn't live in the closet ...
It's in your own backyard."
