It's not a matter of what "God wants", it's more of a natural result of materialism to seperate us from God.  The more "stuff" one has, the more time one must spend taking care of that stuff, and the less time is left over for God or any kind of spiritual life.  So I think it's not really a demand for sacrifice, like to earn spirituality, as much as an observation of how things work.

The Indian culture sounds very interesting with such a large focus on spirituality.

I believe that God gives each of us talents. Material wealth is not evil
if it comes from pursuing the talents, gifts and abilities God gave us to use.

I Think God Wants Us to be Prosperous and in Good Health
We are to be in the world and not of the world.  Given this, I feel that we must self sacrifice for God purpose and we will then get the materialistic rewards, which will be the best of both!!  He prefers obedience to sacrifice! Thanks for commenting on my post!
