Hearts in Atlantis was a fantastic book, while the movie was a mere shadow of the book and even that was not done so well.  If it were a stand-alone movie, it would have been good, but having read the book first, I was sorely disappointed.  I am reading Dreamcatcher now and am apprehensive about the movie.

That is so true!
I have been disappointed too manytimes watching a movie based on one of King's books.  I think the Miniseries he assists with have all come out well, though.

Only If...
King has to do the screenplay.  When they make his books into movies and he doesn't do the screenplay, the movie ends up being crap.  When he does do the screenplay himself, it usually sticks well to the original story in the book itself.

Hard to pick a favorite
Pretty much all King writes is excellent, creative and horrifying.  Yet, each has its own cast of characters (sometimes showing up in other novels!) who have unique situations to resolve.  I really liked the Talisman and The Black House, which both relate to the Dark Tower books.  In all, I think I'll hold off on my favorite book decision until I read the rest of the Dark Tower series.  Sorry!  But, yes, let's keep the discussion going.

Darkchylde - On matters regarding 'The King"
Yup, I would be in total agreeance of there being a movie made for the whole of the Dark Tower series. Just checked the official website and whilst he has not said yes to this ever happening, he hasn't said no either. Personally I think he will submit to popular demand in the end (and the good old power of cold hard cash!). Stephen King is my all time Fave author - 'I'm his number one fan!' Whats your fave book by him? Mine has to be 'The Stand' - the uncut version. It is just so damned possible for something like that to happen. I have just about all of his books, think he's a totally kewl guy and have gained much inspiration from him. Come on Guys - Keep this discussion going. Regards Darkchylde
