- Go to EGADS! THEY ARE ADVERTISING SURGERY ON TV!!!
I agree.
Ninety percent of what they advertise has side effects that don't make it worth taking in the first place. "For your headache, take Blah. Side effects include runny nose, dizziness, diarrhea, incontinence, rash, drowsiness, irritability, constipation, nausea, upset stomach, loss of fingers and toes, and sweaty armpits." I mean, really!

I have to agree with you here, Whacky....Having been through double knee surgery myself about seven years ago, I don't recommend it to anyone unless it's absolutely necessary. Odd you should mention them not giving people the full low down on side effects from certain medications and complications from surgery....You'd think they'd be more willing in order to avoid malpractise suits....
Fortunately, my orthopedic surgeon has always been really good with me about explaining the possible risks and side effects I may have after a surgery. I've been going to him since I was about six years old, and I've decided that if ever he retires or dies, I won't go to another.
I'm so glad I decided against going to medical school after all....Much as I wanted to become a surgeon myself, I probably would have strangled all of my fellow knife happies!!!!!
You're right....Advertising medications on televison is one thing...But when you start advertising surgery the same way, that's just down right scary...Not to mention dangerous.
Thanks for sharing this post...God bless....

If they have to advertise
then it cant be for a necessity otherwise everyone would need it and do it anyway. Its all vanity and image, the curse of the 21st century.

We tell our kids
just to say no to drugs, then bombard them with drugh advertising. There is even one drug that they call the feel good pill. There's a pill for everything. Next they'll be touting penile replacements.

my most treasured posession is my tv remote with the red mute button...
i absolutely deplore the commercialism in this country. they probably are breaking laws and giving us subliminal unconscious suggestions judging by the way my cat acts when programming shifts over to any commercial. i noticed this when my children were toddlers as well. my husband rigged the television so that the only channel we received was Public Television with PBS; and, the only way the girls could watch that was to ride their stationary bikes to generate the power... it worked and besides videos and dvds have managed to escape some of the badness of television.
now, i have satellite but try to watch channels with no commercials, like Linktv, HBO, PBS and c-span. i saw a piece this morning on Sunday Morning CBS showing us the aggressive tactics marketing and advertising jokers are giving toward our kids. they consider them to be the biggest market out there because they think our kids will REQUIRE name brands to boaster their self-esteem... geez... where are the parents out there giving their kids opportunities and teaching them what is what? sorree to rattle on, but thanks for the opportunity to vent on this subject. i wish as americans we could do something to stop it. i signed a petition online last week to get the FCC to remove pharmaceutical commercials from television. you want that i should email you that site? peace.

Whacky, sometimes I think all I have to offer my patients
are pills. That and a lot of TLC -- but that's what medicine has boiled down to -- here, take a pill. Or at least that is what people have come to expect. A pill for every problem.
Good post!
