Gome, I love whoppers!
I like your jingle get your whoppers 'straight' strait...
The Burger King man is very accommodating...you can have it you way or my way,"build your own whopper." I like mine the traditional way, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit with a side order of Mary to go. Oh, and since I'm such a faithful patron, please add a prize. Could you throw in a scapular? Regards,
Melody

actually he might not have died at all
he lived on as a human being
his disciples protected him with the idea of his having died and then the ascension story.
probably he lived near Damascus and did actually meet Saul as he travelled there.
don't need a resurrection for that.
i do believe Joseph of Arimetha made arrangements with Pilate to get Jesus down as soon as possible before he really died -- and then he was taken out of the tomb and taken to where he could be tended to (maybe a Roman prison -- what safer place? -- explains Paul saying that he "preached to the souls in prison") and then taken back to Galilee. Then the man who never actually died appeared to the disciples, showing the scars.
Maybe he died later of old age -- and his progeny might be with us today.

Read Your Post as Usual
I agree with a comment that individuals believe as they choose based on their truths and perceptions.

Xeno-x - as you describe it and as I have come to understand it,
the evidence supporting Jesus being around after the crucifixion is dicey at best. Showing his wounds to his followers after he had ascended into heaven? Wow, all I can say to anyone peddling this stuff is to get their whoppers strait.

KrystalDMonroe - I'm happy for you that you can buy into it
but ultimately the point of this post, or the point of this entire blog for that matter, is that to many people their having faith is not enough. They refuse to accept that their faith has relevancy only to them. Disdain for others who do not share this faith, is not only inherent in most religious messages but is freely promoted by most religions. Buy into a series of whoppers or be damned, admit that you do not buy into it and be ostracized. These are the common failing points that religion in general brings to the table.

jollyjeff -- I like that way of putting it
and really, when you think about it, the crucifixion may have been excruciating agony but it was all fixed up in 3 days.

As I've pointed out to several people
If Jesus died on Good Friday and was resurrected on Easter Sunday, then at most he gave up a weekend for our sins.

knowledge --- where does it comes from?
from somebody telling you what is so?
or from discerning whether or not it is so.

I find it refreshing
that those of us who DO put our faith in the Lord, do not need anything but that simple faith. I don't need to know the REASON or the answers to all these questions. I don't care. I know that I have an omnipotent Father who loves me and who sent His son to die for my sins. Period. End of story. However, as far as your blog goes, I give you kudo points for your arguments, because they are good. I just find that my faith alone is the most important. I don't need an answer. Looking forward to reading more. Ciao.

i don't think he really died.
you look at the cruicifixion thing and he was treated differently from the rest -- was brought down quite early.
in Mark, there is no ressurection -- the women go to the tomb, a young man (no angel) sits on the bench and tells them that "he has gone before you into Galilee."
I htink he was a pretty potent force -- and that it was best to say that he was dead -- that he ascended from the Mount of Olives rather than was really alive and preaching somewhere.
the accounts of Mary Magdalen meeting a gardener whom she didn't recognize and some disciples meeting a man on the road whom they didn't recognize -- then later thouight these were in fact Jesus --- you get a hint at some other things in John 3, Jesus talking to Nicodemus, when he says "we" -- Jesus was one of a group -- like thinking individuals -- the apostles were disciples of this particular member of the group.
his appearing to the disciples and showing the scars -- that's a physical body there -- real scars for sure -- flesh and blood.
but people had to be weaned away from the sacrifices of Judaism -- and what better way that a "sacrifice for all time" that Paul wrote about -- the "lamb of god".
people had a pretty solid sense about sins at that time. they still do -- read our new guy -- hypocoalypse now.
that was one more step away from primitive religion.
we need to be taking quite a few more steps.
