Where might I find a ruana?
Sounds very pretty. The man definitely was insensitive. But I don't believe he was malicious. I think he was trying to be helpful. When he was overweight he was probably very proactive as far as asking for advice directly. And like most people, he probably assumed, you where like him. Do you have the website he was talking about? BTW, I hope I am not being insensitive. I've lost 50-60 lbs. myself. I broke my leg, quit smoking cigs and broke my heart a couple of times. I was not going to spare myself any pleasures obviously...so food became my bestest friend... I started distancing myself from it when I began to notice the heavier of those in the older generation having knee problems... That was motivation enough for me...:)

I just don't understand people sometimes

It is just plain rude for a complete stranger to comment on something so
personal. I get the same kind of remarks, only I'm slim and short. "Do you eat at all?" or "You must weigh about 90 pounds wet."
What is wrong with these people. They have no sense of decency or manners keeping their comments to yourself!
Once I had someone at work say, "Wow you're really small." I answered with a thankyou. The guy was astonished because he didn't mean it as a compliment, but I obviously took it as one.

I don't mean to sound like the old man, when I say this...
but, taking into consideration I've been in his position(size thirteen to six in roughly three years), maybe he wasn't trying to be cruel? Maybe he was just trying to sympathize with you or the restaurant he worked at wasn't paying him enough, so he was trying to get you interested in this weight-loss thing online; maybe he's the promotion man for it, lol!

Well, maybe that whole karma thing
will turn back and bite him. :-)

I have no clue what website it was...
I was so disconcerted I can only remember thinking "Please go away."

I agree with you that guy was a major ass...
I KNOW my forehead says "abuse me... I like it." People always insult me and I don't realize it until they walk away or I stop to think for a moment then I fume.
What in the heck website was it??? I'd be curious just to see what he was so brainwashed about that he would accost you in a RESTAURANT where HE works!!!

Great point, Too!
Check out those Reubens chicks. They were no string-beans! And the Venus de Milo...she wasn't any Twiggy for darn sure. And what about the Venus in "The Birth of Venus", where she's rising up from the water buck-nekkid and standing in a scallop shell? She isn't exactly skinny, either.

I just wish
the Renaissance woman would come back in style. I hate that people make so many judgements about you if you don't conform to the twiggy look.

I'm angriest at myself
I stood there and took it. Eyes downcast, letting the old arse get away with it. I am terrible at standing up for myself. It makes me angry at myself.

HAD THAT BEEN ME
I might have been ticked in the teeth, and I may have been in jail for using martial arts on a geezer.
ps. I have always wanted a rauna, but haven't found one in all black yet.
