Well, I'll be the first to
say I stand corrected!  I had not see the information mentioned...I had only heard the comments made the night of the vote to withdraw troops.  The Congresswoman should not have done such a thing.........

Barronness,
Interesting.  That makes her actions even more reprehensible in my opinion.  She took someone else's words, used them in a way never intended by the origiinal speaker, applied to a situation and a person they were never intended for.  I'd say that makes her an instigator.

To Correct An Erroneous Statement -- RE: Jean Schmidt

Three days after Rep. Jean Schmidt was booed off the House floor for saying that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do," the Ohioan she quoted disputed the comments. Danny Bubp, a freshman state representative who is a colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve, said he never mentioned Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., by name when talking with Schmidt, and he would never call a fellow Marine a coward. "The unfortunate thing about all of that is that her choice of words on the floor of the House - I don't know, she's a freshman, she had one minute. "Unfortunately, they came out wrong," said Bubp, R-West Union.

Corbin to me you are a yes man not a republican
you are all in no matter what, you are a good little boy who will always say yes sir, no sir, you never question anything. You are very weak. And yes I am a real republican no matter what you say. I can't back Bush because he is failure in my book. He failed us when he did not go after the terrorists. He had an Iraq agenda and let Bin laden slip away. He has done nothing in the war on terror.

Thank you, Corbin,
I do appreciate your saying that, because I didn't feel that I was representing my side as well as I would like, but more later.

We'll have to let this one go...because I'm apparantly not communicating very well tonight.....I like to finish with one topic before starting 2-3 more.....

BUt I do enjoy discussing things with you, Blanche.....you got your head screwed on right...you know what I mean?

CorbinDallas,

I'm not familiar with every politician in Washington, so that's not really relevant, IMO.  The Democrats are the minority party, their power is limited, so I think it was a shrewd move on their part to ask Murtha to be their spokesman, he has longevity, he has senior committee status (which counts for a lot in Washington, I hear), and opponents of the war are always accused of cowardice, and his military record speaks for itself.

He knows war, he knows how wars are fought, he knows strategy, and which wars are "winnable".  I trust his input more than Rumsfled or Cheney, who have no "blood in the game" as they say.  Their connections to Halliburton make their motives all the more suspect.

Blanche....

That's not what I meant.....I wasn't asking about him, I was asking about you....had you heard of him before the House Dem leadership approached him to do the press conference a few weeks back.......Would you have known who he was....say in August?

You had stated that he was like an elder statesman... and I wondered how long you had been familiar with him.....for me,  my definition of an elder statesman is not one who serves in the house for decades and  you have only heard from him in the past year......see what  mean?  He's been there since 1974...31 years!

CorbinDallas,
If you are insinuating that a politician would seek attention, I have to say, I'm shocked, shocked that you would think such a thing.   However, I do believe that behind all the hoopla, there still exists some degree of conviction in Washington, pesthole that it is.

Not being argumentative......

Just curious....had you ever heard of the Congressman.........before he had his press conference advocating troop withdrawal?

CorbinDallas,
No, it doesn't.  However, I happen to agree with what he's saying, so the fact that he's kind of an "elder stateman" carries an extra weight to his words.

Past service is much appreciated and his honors were well deserved....does that give someone a blank check for the rest of their lives.....

Listen at what you guys are saying.....he's to be excused because he served?  That's a scary kind of logic.

KInd of like looking the other way, at a priest who  just molested someone's son,  becuase he's done so much for the community.

Actually, the Congresswoman was relating a message given to her by a constituent....who called her on her cell phone......the constituent was a marine fighting in Iraq....Those were his words.......

Did he have a right to say it???

Corbin_Dallas,
I respect Congressman Murtha's stand. He's speaking from the position of years of military and congressional service, including the Senate Armed Forces Committee.  I don't believe he's a coward or a fool. In fact, whatever her name was, the freshman senator who quoted someone els's words about real Marines,  was way out of line, and has zero credibility in my book.  She has zero military or political experience.

Murtha was a real Marine
and a  decorated Vietnam combat veteran who retired as a colonel after 37 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. I would say he was a real marine and earned the right to have his say.

Real marines
My uncle dove onto a grenade to save his platoon in Korea. He lived , and got the congressional medal of honor. Now that is a marine.   Still pulling schrapnel out of him. Wasn't Murtha drafted?    Vice president Gore was in Nam too, as a reporter for Stars and Stripes.  Thanks Bill Mc qillcan(helicopter pilot) for saving my sorry butt.

Justsouno what the hell are you talking about?
First I have one talking about Ted "jabba the hut" Kennedy and now you chime in with who knows what. I said Murhta has the right to say what he wants because he served. And it is 2006 and I will write what I want and like I said before if you don't like it don't read.

Hi..Thanks for another good post! It saddens me to see a man who has served his country for so many years being used in a manor that doesn't benefit his credentials.

By the way he served in the Navy, now what about the Bush girls?

At least Donald Rumsfeld knows how to operate the military... I watched the troops appreciate his leadership over the holidays!Gee when was the last time you ever saw someone like a Ted Kennedy in Iraq............O wait a minute, isn't he the senator who has yet to make that trip? Silly me, what was I thinking? Some leaders become wiser and stronger with age while other sink into senility or some just choose to remain in office with the big red noses! Have another drink and see how the leaders have served their country...easy to have selective memory when you can't remember where you leave bodies eh? I couldn't help but notice that last comment had a list so one sided~!

At least Congressman John Murtha served his country

 more then I can say for the following who NEVER served;

The Bush Party Girl Twins, Dick Cheney, Dennis Hastert, Tom Delay, Bill Frist, Rick Santorum, Trent Lott, John Ashcroft, Jeb Bush, Karl Rove, Paul Wolfowitz, Sean Hanity, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O"Reilly.

Murtha has earned his right to speak his mind just like any vet who opposes war. And just like Viet Nam, there are plenty of vets who fought in Iraq who now oppose the war.

It isn’t about unity, it is about the way the military is being run by senile old fools like Rumsfeld.

I am glad that you aware of the Russia /Ukraine saga that is unfolding under our very eyes. What I don't know though are what Jacque Chirac and Zapatero who claimed that Russia will be an alternative to America will now say. The US would not have acted they way the Russians are doing. On this thank you very much for reading.  God Bless.

Corbin another excellent post. I can only
put a woman's spin on 'Not wortha Murtha'. One can not be in constant 'hot flash mode' and stay 29 for years. Something is wrong with this picture. He is a has been who is putting ideas in some people's heads to long and to wishy washy at that. Everybody does not see the light as coming through his other ear. He and those like him are dangerous; yet welcome to their point of view and to voice it. It does require a military to give him that. Be blessed.

Corbin,

I've voiced the fact that I didn't back up Bush when he jumped into this war mess without making sure of his information. Nothing is going to change his decision now and nothing is going to bring back the dead either, but, if I was called to defend my country, my freedom, my rights, then I would be the first to step forward immediately. Bush may have "jumped the gun" here, but, it was still going to happen sooner than later, no doubt about that. As for Murtha, sounds like he doesn't realize that we as a nation may have stepped the boundaries, but still as citizens we are all obligated to defend our actions now right or wrong. My comtempt stems from the timing of this mess, not in denying what has happened.  Shadow

CORBIN

Quite frankly I don't think there are a lot of people in the military who would want him. He tends to remind me of people who have over stayed their time, like a Ted Kennedy if you will.

Thank God most people ( young and old alike) know he is a tad "out there"!!!

Good reading as usual my friend!!

Mr. Murtha  thinks he's a patriot, but he has gone astray for some reason. He once was. He's not now.
