well described poetic stuff
and the attitude! So accurate the weird atmosphere of a destination location... especially liked the allusion to mindless schooling fishlike tourism. :)pat

Your comments to is a sort of benchmark of approval. You are right to point ou that aid doesn't help but goes to feed the mouths of the many dictators in Africa and elsewhere. Have you heard the latest? It seem Chirac wants to impose a special fare to all passengers flying out of French airports. Guess to who the sum will be directed, the poor in third world. Isn't amazing that Chirac doesn't want to stop farm subsidies that are far more beneficial but wants to impose on others to what he does want? Have a nice thanks giving day.

Good - a different viewpoint from
the usual "poetic" Cretian isles.

Great post
I do have this overwhelming fear, whenever I've been abroad, that people might consider me to be a costa. I don't think they really would but it's definitely part of a hideous country-image.

It is a tongue in cheek look at all the -- sometimes ghastly -- Brits who come on holiday to Spain, mainly on the costas.
I live here in the cold wet winters as well as the lovely hot summers.

Mixed feelings. Not sure I understand this piece. My ancestors emigrated from Norway/Sweden and I was born blonde and blue eyed which I can't help. I live in an economically depressed area that depends on tourism and I have often resented when they descend upon us for the summer with their affluence and demands. They wouldn't consider living here in the winter and sharing the cold misery.
