Thank you for a great post!  I really enjoy reading-keep 'em coming.  Part of the enjoyment I derive from reading history is the realization that people from so long ago are not really all that different from us (although we may bathe more). As far as those taking you to task for allegedly downplaying Muslim atrocities against Christians, well, there's plenty of room for hypocrisy and savagery for all.  It's sad to read of all the brutalities committed throughout history that were committed in God's name (who, frankly, would probably just as soon people NOT invoke his name when beheading 'infidels' or throwing heretics on a rack). You're doing a great service.

Well you might shiver, my dear, for there is far worse to come!

Altho' the ( Roman ) Inquisition was formally abolished some centuries ago, as far as I am aware it still exists in another name and form.

It's called something about " ... Purity of the Faith ..." or something about " Doctrine" and the present Pope was it's head. I would be interested if you, or someone else could identify this body

Yes, indeed, they were a pretty disreputable lot, weren't they? But there, every pope has to a be a politician ; as you'll learn when The Blair Thing becomes Pope Very Innocent 1.

Babe rocks

Clicking on Gnostic churches in a search engine turns up lots of information on them. However, I haven't found any other descendant churches of those that I mentioned.

Indeed not! Innocent had his beady eye in them too.

It's a matter of priorities ; I didn't set out to write a book about the Spanish Inquisition, but merely an overview, set out in pieces that'll be palatable to fellow bloggers.

As you know, a lot of people won't read long posts, and I guess most of then wouldn't bother to read, say, a 10 or 15 part series either. So, it comes down to ruthless pruning, and a whole lot of often major things get left out.

Which is why I've concentrated on the subject of heresy, when clearly any good history will show that the Inquisition ( which was de facto a state-within-a-state )was closely involved in every aspect of Spanish religious, social and political life. One could write a major tome on its involvement in politics alone.

So, I shall have to beg forgiveness in advance for any apparent areas of ignorance.

I was wondering if there are any modern day church bodies that are directly descended from the early heretical sects.

Ariel, well, the scene is well set. Let the action begin. BTW do you consider that Innocent did not take on the jews?    ARGUS.

Well down, Ariel. I still tremble as I read about the inquisition and the
rules of this satanic agency on earth.
