Hubby drives with his knees...
makes me very uncomfortable at times!

Kris, I've never known anybody who drove with their knees,.......

I've never heard of that.  Wow!  Learn something new every day.  Yes, there are so many bad drivers out there.  I do my darndest not to drive.   I can, though, if I have to.

Great post!

Krisles,
In Southern California, in the Mojave, when I was visiting my Dad, I noticed that turn signals were considered optional, even wimpy.  Driving is a mind game, there, like poker. You don't want to tip your hand too soon, or someobody will rush to cut you off, just for fun, I guess.  In Washington, it's a little more relaxed.  In the country, where my Mom moved to, people signal for miles, it's a nice change.

I drive with my knees occassionally.
After all, who needs a thighmaster type of gadget when you can just have a little workout on the way to work. *grin*

Yes, those are the triple backs and they really scare me. Especially if there is even a hint of wind!! I would love to do a road trip with you, we would have a blast!

Wouldn't it be fun to take a roadtrip together sometime?!  We'll have to do that..  And as for the piggybacks....have you seen the three-whatever-they-call-em's.....I mean, it's like a train....and, in Texas, they are all comin' up from Mexico, where the inspections are non-existent....tearin' up the highways....well, I shouldn't even get started....but, you talk about frightenin'!!!!

Kris

People who don't use their signals make me nuts especially in heavy traffic. Plus there are the ones who slide into the fast lane by a car length. That only takes them up to the next one they cut off...I am like you, I listen to my tunes and go at my own pace, sometimes I speed, most times I love looking at the landscapes.

The biggest thing that terrorize me are the darn piggy backing trucks. They can't stop on a dime. I don't like to be in front of them, and hate to be behind them.

Oh no....my moment of infamy returns to haunt me.  Well, you may have a sore shoulder, but there's nothing wrong with your memory banks, eh?  Haha...  I seem to recall it was a shared experience, however, so I know my secret is safe.  And Vane's back at school now....  Yep, I'm safe.  But just in case....

Whoa!  I hear you on that....my mother had one that I drove once before she took the wheels off and installed it in a lot in Cloudcroft.  Have you seen all the new car models with the arrows on the side mirrors?  They need to put really big ones all over some cars that are attached to the minds of the drivers....it's all in the future I see.  Also, I want a message board across the back window that you can type in those lighted moving messages like they have at ball parks and stuff.....you could "communicate" with people that you passed...you know...."thank you"...."*!&#  you!".....wait! might cause road rage... forget that idea....

Okay, pull over, ma'am....
Let's have your licence, registration and -- well, well....look who it is.   It's High-Speed Krisles.  Haven't we had this conversation before?  Oh, I guess you left out the part about driving with your knees last time, and the under-age stuff.   Still, I'm going to let you off with another warning because you like to use turn signals.  Next time, it's the County Courthouse for you, though....

I bet she is just sick!!  I bought a '02 Chrysler 300M Special and I need to put deer horns on it because the winding roads I drive (especially the way I drive them) are just full of deer all year long...and in rutting season it is especially bad...my other car had the deer horns on it already and I don't know if they helped but assume they did because none ever darted out in front of me....and there are lots of loose cattle and horses around here, too...I've seen cows total lots of cars....plenty of open range land.... Yeah, that'll buff out!!!  You'd get a real kick out of some of the self-hammered "hail" damage total losses we've gotten....paint gone!!  We could have some fun swappin' stories, woman!

A good line...
My brother-in-law used this line --- "Say what year is that car?"  When the driver gives him the answer, he then says, "Oh, I was going to get on of those but I didn't realize they don't have turn signals."  Pretty vinegary though, I would never try that.  We have a 26ft motorhome and I have observed that even though it will do the speed limit quite handily, everyone still thinks they have to pass you.  And changing lanes with that overgrown rig is really fun, mega  blind spots, signal, wait for a honk, check all the mirrors twice then slowly move over.  Also anticipate lane changes far in advance, saves a lot of vocabulary.

I'd love to hear your adventures!!!!!!!! Speaking of accidents, we had
a 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander towed into the shop today.  The only information that I had was that the vehicle was rolled.  I figured it would just be messed up on one side and maybe on the roof.  The back window was busted out, the roof was collapsed near the back, both the left and the rights side panels were ALL mashed, and the front end, towards the right front was mashed to hell.  This thing looked like it rolled and landed on every single side of the car.  I was going to write a blog about it called:  "HEY, THAT SHIT'LL BUFF OUT!"  However, didn't have time to do it.  The girl driving was bumped and bruised.  She swerved to miss a deer.  It's a TOTAL loss and the vehicle had less than 5000 miles on it.

No, I'm not laughing at you!  I'm telling you the truth! Lots of people do run into buildings and houses....I've seen the claims....honest!!  I wouldn't laugh at you about that....with you...but not at you...  In Texas, in the old, old days.....if you took Driver's Ed, you could get your license at 14...12 if you lived on a farm and your parents' signed..... Frightening isn't it?!  I was driving all over town at 14!!!  But, at least all the cars were these huge tanks of steele!!  Someday I'll have to post about all the times I would sneak out with the car, driving all over....at 14!

Krisles...are laughing at me? And, what EXACTLY were you doing
driving at age 14?  Hmmmmm????????  I meant to ask you that before and forgot.

Ouch! That would hurt the ego of a new driver!  Happened to me, too, though.....I was just 14....and the dang radio had a short in it and wasn't playing all the way down the road....the jolt of the impact to the car after I allegedly ran a red light and ended up in the ditch across the intersection caused the radio to come on...guess what it was playing.....and this is the honest to goodness truth....."Who's Sorry Now"!!!!....btw, lots of folks run into buildings and houses and stuff....happens all the time....really!!!

Krisles,

Truck drivers now are not near trained enough and many today attempt to bully their way in the traffic. I've got a CB and I guarantee I will tell a trucker I'm turning him in if he misbehaves. Actually, I don't think I could drive again permanently. Too much stress and too much danger. Shadow

Krisles...that part about your instructions pertaining to more than

just driving...nice way to wrap up your thoughts!  Nice, slow, and easy does it!  I'm a defensive driver...always checking my mirrors, giving people room, trying to keep my head about myself.  Traffic makes me angry, but I try not to be a road hog or ignorant!

By the way, my very first accident was when I ran my 68 camaro through a laundromat...two day after I got my license.  No one got hurt, except for my maro and my ego.

I can imagine what you've seen.  It used to be that truckers were the safest and the most courteous drivers out there....unfortunately, that's not always the case now....still, wouldn't want to be in their shoes trying to control those rigs with the nuts darting in and out.  I've had to work some really nasty wrecks with the big rigs....and some where the truckers were hurt trying to avoid hurting other.  And, yeah, I know driving with the knees is baaad....like I said, I don't do it in traffic....I'll just risk my own life (still dumb.....)

Sorry you had to deal with that....that's when the tapes on books come in handy.....  You know that movie, "Twister"?  The one with the flyin' cow?  I had a claim once where a frozen cow carcass broke through the side of a refrigerated truck on an overpass and killed a guy as he was driving home from work below....talk about fate.....his moment in time.....imagine the cop having to tell his wife...."m'am, you husband was killed by a flyin' frozen cow on his way home from work....."

Good goin', girlfriend!  I'm not at all surprised....but I'm not tellin' how many years I've been drivin'!  Btw, how's your mom?  I keep meaning to ask you......  You should be getting a good driving discount.......that's as good as you're gonna get!  I remember when I went to work being so bummed that there was no special discount employees could get....against the law....

Krisles,

After more than five years as a truck driver. I can say. The bigger and higher you are, the faster the 4-wheelers take notice. My father was a state trooper/cop and when it came to driving, it was hands on wheel at the right angles. I've always used my hand signal. I always try to be polite, but, unfortunately Nashville traffic doesn't give any breaks. I loath tailgaters. Shadow

Kris... you want to see traffic..

I sat on a highway for over an hour today because a tree fell across it in the damn storm up here.  Nothing funnier than waiting for a guy with a chainsaw so that I could get to work.

btw... Reni... go knock on some wood... I'm proud to say, me neither, but knocking as I say it... LOL

BTW--Been driving almost *gasp* 20 years here.  Not ONE ticket or accident yet.  I think I should get a 50% discount on car insurance, thank you!
