We lost a birds' nest here too last week. Thankfully it was empty. It fell off the beam where it had sat through two hatchings that we had seen. It just blew off and blew away. Those birds would chase us away even when we walked nearby.
This tale made me grimace in pain. How distressing

Joe, a cautionary tale. Sometimes, your blogs take on a mythic significance which bloom out in the mind - metaphor for Blogit, parable for humanity - to draw such significance from the everyday and place it in the mind of a reader is a talent indeed. Great juxtaposition for the title. This post was a viewing the world in a grain of sand spell for me. Cheers.

Please tell me ya'll somehow managed to save their little pinfeathered asses.
I am very much a bird person, and it's a wrench to hear a story start like this one!

Ow..... I know you're an animal lover, so I get how that must have made you feel. Hence your writing about it here, I guess, to try and expunge it. Totally no one's fault. It's similar to hitting an animal with your car on the highway. A complete accident. I came around a curve and hit two raccoons crossing the highway one night. One was killed outright, but I had to end the other one's suffering quickly with my hands because it was dying anyway and it was in real pain. Let's just say that stayed with me for a long time. So I know how you feel.

OMG, Joe Love, my heart is breaking. For a second I thought you were
telling a story about some suicidal birds, but then I realized they were "parents" in search of their young. Woe is me...I'm so sad.

What great storytelling about a very tragic thing. I remember running over a rabbit's nest with my lawnmower, too, and I felt really awful. But, rabbits weren't dive-bombing their nest to save their babies so it must have been worse for you.

This is so sad Joe... Your post just reminded of an incident where my friend accidentally ran over a bird with his vehicle... and the bird didn't die immediately.

Joe,
I just had to stop by when I heard all the ruckus. I really felt bad at first, then I comforted myself by saying (real loud), ''What the hell is the matter with me? Have I gone nuts? Mothra was a bad news mama. Godzilla's mama, I think. Now here I am about to cry over the beast. I think Blogit has actually caused my sanity to run for the cliffs with the lemmings. I have unofficially lost it altogether!''
After telling myself off like that, in a very stern voice, I felt a lot better. Muthra, after all, was one Big Fat Geek that stomped the hell out of Tokyo in unsynched, dubbed by monkies, English. I was only lucky enough to see, before starting the uncheckable slide, that I was about to step on glare ice. It was a touching piece, but luckily I was saved by my nerves of steel.

I went into your post excpecting satire and irony and caustic wit, but that was sad, the image of those birds trying to save their young and the babies in pain. I hope there's a bird heaven.

Joe,
Those poor babies. I remember when we had brush fires like that on our farm and the poor little rabbits and birds would panic and so many would perish from their supposed safe homes. Bless you for trying to save them.

Ah, Joe. I hate when that happens...
If it isn't birds, it's the rabbits that nest in brush to be burnt. I never realize until it is too late and wind up feeling like hell inside all day.
You write well, Joe. Enjoying your posts.
Take care.
