Looks like that fish smelled pretty bad :-)... some good times though, huh

How is your shoulder doing, my friend?  Hope you feel better.

I love these pictures.. and the smell of Lava soap. My parents always used it, especially my brother and Dad. Most times my Mom and I used Ivory/

These pictures bring back a memory of a by gone era... love it!!

Thank you so much for reading!  He was a sweetheart....for some reason I just this moment remembered the wonderful Easter egg hunts he would set up for us at his house....he would dye the most incredible eggs and then come up with elaborate hiding places and wrap money and little notes and surprise toys and things....

OMG....you've never smelled Lava soap?! You must make a point of it!  I know it's still made...check in the drugstore..... And, I've always been told that fish don't feel the hook...now, I don't know how anyone knows that....

I've seen your artwork....and you are right about the gene.....sorry, but I'm always honest with you; however, you definitely do have some scientific promise....your thinking sometimes borders on definite genius.....

Hi, Jo.....thank you for coming back for a look....glad you enjoyed. I loaded a bunch of photos and will be sharing....it's kind of a "therapy" I'm doing.  I had a wonderful family and childhood and, now that I've kind of got at least a little bit of a handle on putting the photos in posts, I'll be doing more of them.

Thank you....he was such a dear, dear man...I know you would have liked him.  He was the kind of gentle and good soul you describe your dad as have been....everyone held him in such high regard....and sought his counsel.  When I can, I'll write about his death....and the funeral....it all is a very strong memory for me.  Meanwhile, I don't think you realize, but I finally got the little giant girl photo back on ...and cut down to size...and, as a matter of fact, have photos on all my blogs now...except the MA!!!  So, while I'm driving to KC...you can join me on my memory lane if you'd like....

Yeah
I have a big book of BF goodrich stuff, and a lot of the stuff he just did for himself.  So yeah, it turns out that my family actually DOES have talent.  I don't know how I ended up like this.  I think the talent gene got taken over by the blonde gene.  But I'm no scientist.

So sweet, Krisles...I almost shed a tear.it didn't quite roll down my cheek
Powerful writing and the reader can see  and feel every detail you are describing. Like the big pegasus sign you would see as you lay in your bed there and tried to sleep. I sense your comfort from this family and your admiration for such a kind, gentle grandfather, a patient teacher and his son, your daddy. The photos are lovely. And you, too, come to life in an even stronger way..If that's possible, haha...

Glad you enjoyed meeting Granddaddy....you would have liked him.  And I was quite pleased with myself....that fish was huge!  I don't know how big it was, but I was 10 there, and was actually a fairly small girl until I had a late growth spurt....Daddy told me to lift it up....I can remember so clearly my arm was shaking as I held it up for him to take that photo.  I think Granddaddy was about to reach in to help me when Daddy shot that.  It's funny, but I had forgotten that he was not that tall...neither was my Grandmother .....and they had tall children.  I'd not really thought about it until I look at him compared to me in that photo....and then started remembering him next to my dad (6'2") in memory "photos"....

Man, stories like these are great.  It's like opening the door to a time capsule.  Your way of telling it all makes this introduction to your grandfather very real.  I feel like the only thing missing is the actual  handshake.  This post kind of brought him out of the shadows and into the sunlight, describing all those details about him, the soap, the voice, the hats, etc.  Great photo of you both, too, very natural.  I can see you bracing yourself against the weight of the fish, there, and looking mighty pleased with yourself.  Lake Possum Kingdom?  It doesn't get any better than that.  And the word "Lefty's" on the boat....

Must be part of your charm for me, you little dickens, you!  I'll catch up with you if I ever get on the road and get back to KC....I know you're probably misbehaving in the funniest way.  Do you have examples of his art?  I hope so....it's so neat to have those things to look back on.

Thank you so much! I was a lucky little girl.....blessed with wonderful family. Granddaddy died when I was 15, and I have so many fond memories of him....the most gentle and completely good man I've ever known.  Glad you "saw" him in the story.

Odd

My grandfather (on my father's side) was an advertising artist for BF Goodrich.

Strange coincidence.

talk about a lucky little girl!
Very good descriptive writing, sweet nostalgia. Everyone needs a sweet grand-daddy like the one you were blessed with. Love the way the details develop the picture so clearly. :)Pat

All my posts up right now have photos in them....well except MA (!) ..if you want to take a walk down my memory lane....I'm trying to get new posts up before I take off for KC....if I can get this dang shoulder to quit hurting.  And, I'd forgotten about Lava soap, too....until I saw the fish picture and got to thinking about Granddaddy.  Did you have a nice birthday? When I get to KC I hope to get caught up on reading.
