I used to be suspicious of the Smurfs, but really they've been around so long that I've downgraded to code yellow.  I really think they're just washed up potheads at this point and pose no real threat.  They are potentially evil, so we'll keep our eye on them.  I don't know why there is a Papa Smurf but no Grandma Smurf.  Makes me wonder

Oz

Completely understandable about the Bananas in Pajamas.  Nectarines in nightgowns -- maybe -- but having stuffed Bananas who sing annoying songs on your bed ain't likely to make you a hit with the ladies.

Nice to meet you.  Always good to see new faces around here to go along with the old friends.  Especially hippies.  Thanks for the visit.

crying at cartoons

I cried at the ending of "A Bug's Life". Felix the cat has not slipped into obscurity in our house. My son once made a school project out of reproducing Felix's magical bag of tricks. Just the bag. Well, it was a private school. It was an alternative school for the children of aging hippies now successful in corporate America, but not giving up on the dream of homeschooling their kids. I taught there for a discount on his tuition. So, that's why he made things like a Felix magical bag of tricks for a project. Now, he's 17, goes to one of those artsy highschools like the one in the movie Fame and would not allow me to take his Bananas in Pajamas doll out of storage to show his latest girlfriend. It was okay to let her see his stuffed Animaniacs, Bugs Bunny and Sylvester arranged neatly on his bed, but he's not so sure that anyone will ever understand Bananas in Pajamas and the obnoxious song the doll sings when you squeeze it.

Masky

really?!  I thought they were gay.  There's a best-selling novel in this somewhere.  "Assaulted by a Smurf" or maybe "Smurfed by a Smurf"

it's too bad you don't remember.  Maybe they Smurf you the right way.  :-)

Hey Cunning...
Scooby Doo and the Flintstone's were my favorite.  I never quite "got" the smurfs.  Though this one time, at band camp, I was walking in the woods with my flute, and I found Papa smurf, and he fed me blue mushrooms, and I liked them, so I ate more, and I turned blue, and I laughed alot, and my flute started talking to me, and it told me I had bad breath, and it bonked me on the head, and Papa Smurf laughed, and I laughed, and I ate more blue mushrooms, and I fell asleep a field, and the next morning, I woke up naked, and there were little blue footprints all over my groin area.  WTF?

classic Warner Bros. were less concerned with traumatizing hypersensitive, fragile little child minds.  Yosemite Sam with two six shooters firing away would not fly nowadays in the PC movement.  Ever notice the similarities between a PC movement and a bawl movement.

Thanks.  I don't believe in evolution because -- look, we still have Megillah Gorilla.  Explain that one to me. ;-)

I've never taken hallucinogens in my life, but I think I know kind of what it's like, thanks to Ren & Stimpy.  Whoever is responsible for that show is a mad genius.  Freaks me out.  Family Guy should get honorable mention here too.

I think Handy was the only straight Smurf actually.  There were 101 of them and they were all Smurfin each other.  Vanity Smurf was definitely gay -- no question.  Smurfette was the only female in the village, so you know she couldn't be everywhere at once.  This deserves a post of its own.

CunningLinguist,
Funny post. Some of the cartoons didn't evolve from being mute mutinies.

Just like last time - I still want Tom to eat Jerry and Wile E. Coyote to catch that smartass roadrunner.

Cunning,

I so love Tom and Jerry. Smurfs was my ultimate favorite. You forget Ren & Stimpy! Now that was one great gritty kitty cartoon! Oh, can't forget South Park either. Shadow

Couldn't Care Less Bears!
That's hilarious!  Cartoons today really suck. My all time favorite is the Smurfs. I had a crush on handysmurf. Please don't tell me he's gay
