May be we can reverse and see how we can be the H.C.F.Highest Common Factor
Isn't that the expression that was reverse of LCD? Trying to recall my maths!

Amen, Brotha!
Good points, all.  I never understood that stereotype anyway.  As a woman, I have never actively sought out a lazy, shiftless, snacksidizing, insensitive, emotionally immature knothead without a pot to piss in or a lick of common sense, but alas, they do actively seek me.  <sigh>

P.S. I read in my post that you watched Friday Night Lights on Friday
evening.  DUDE....my son and his friend went to a highschool football game on Friday night.  When we got home, we turned on the fireplace and fell asleep in the family room watching FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!  Hmmmm.....ironic?

Cunning, I just read your poem in your reply to Krisles...Brilliant! You
do have a way with words! I add the following to all my emails...I think you will appreciate it!

My Symphony

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

So...how do you really feel about these "one liner losers"? ! would rather
spend 30 minutes of my time reading something REALLY FUNNY written by a guy with a brilliant sense of humor...albeit somewhat warped at times!LOL...than watching 30 minutes of inane one liners that the networks tout as "comedy"! Of course I am referring to you as the abovementioned writer!

Medocrity is the cream of the crap!

I'm with you. I am tired of "get er done" uttering idiots becoming the pinnacle of success to society. Whatever ever happened to the good ole days when being called a Redneck was an insult? Now people walk around wearing it like a badge of honor.

I made this confession once, too.  Most people don't admit to wanting to "pass the baton" to Peg Bundy.  I told a girl one time that Peggy was a prime candidate for a specific organ donation and she looked at me as if I'd just swallowed my own face.

Ah yes...
Al Bundy, but the only problem with as is he never wanted to make love to Peg.  I did, and do.

Yeah, Charlotte -- now you're talking!  If Sara Jessica Parker came up to me and started flirting, I'd pull out the stun gun and hope the authorities showed up before she returned to consciousness.  ;-)

I know what you're saying.  I agree completely

Lt. you are ruthless....What I mean is....Madison Avenue speaks....
and many women listen. Okay, how about Kristin Davis, Charlotte from Sex and the City. How's that, you picky son of a gun,,,haha....I bet if Sarah J came up to you and flirted and loved your posts, you'd be all over her like a cheap suit. lol......You catch my drift, I think......

Sara Jessica Parker is a butter face: great body, BUTTER FACE... don't try to look like her, please.  And I like just about any kind of Doritos.  Have to say I like Pringles the best, though.

Hi CunningL...our Lt. Dang....haha....You make great points here...
It's a shame that is the stereotype that is heaped on top of tv viewers. And yet, Madison Avenue controls a lot of how we are supposed to be and look and feel in their minds. Yes, I admit, I am caught up in staying skinny because that's how it's supposed to be because that's how Teri Hatcher is and Sarah jessica Parker, etc. I think it is so stronger a message forced on women....By the way, I love Nacho Doritos..

it's all conditioning, I think.  Seems to me that women are just more accepting of who appears at the tube.  Especially in family shows, it seems.  I think women want bad boys to be good-looking and they want the husband to be the chubby, lovable, stay at home, I'm not a cheatin' bastard threat.  You'll notice any show that has good-looking guys on it, has the cheating mistress element; the soap opera man mentality.  Anyway, it seems that way to me.

posted by CunningLinguist on October 8, 2005 at 4:12 PM | link to this | reply

I think about this a lot.  Okay, well maybe not a lot, but sometimes!  And I notice we never see a slovenly, loveable loser-type woman with a smart, good looking trophy husband!!

Krisles

Good question. I think it's natural to get lulled by the trappings of affluence. We are more willing to pay money than to pay attention; it's faster and more convenient. I don't think people who don't pay attention are bad people, we just have a false sense of security. We believe that the powers that be will take care of us, when, in actuality, they're giving it to us up the arse. It's easier to be a sheep.

Propped up propaganda spoon fed

to the loyal flock. Situation comedies,

network news and... Oh yeah,

talk, talk, talk.

The shareholding shepherd leads us

not astray. The path to pure enlightenment

enticing us to stay

is corporate cooperation

to which the nation must obey.

Drowned the drones in their homes

with quantity over quality;

style over substance.

Blatant substance abuse. Or merely

manipulating the masses, the passive,

the obtuse.

Reality TV? You must be kidding me.

Supposed adults sweet and cheeky

till gotten to that private spot

of anonymous animosity

where gossip rears it's head of two faces.

Teaching us sheep the weakest

link will never be a survivor.

Whatever sells cars, beer, and detergent.

Oh, and toys. The underaged consumer

a vital demographic. The Shepherd;

the begotten babysitter, making

cynical and sarcastic.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Your long distance carrier should be

top priority; and of this I am certain.

Our will has become paralyzed

and our consciousness -- commercialized.

Our heads have been homogenized

as collectively we're sodomized.

There's residuals if you're not yourself.

Be original -- like everybody else.

As sure as soccer moms

need mountain climbing SUVs,

we are misinformed and have conformed

from sea to shining sea.

So one question remains...

Don't know? I'll give you a hint.

What'll it be; AT&T, MCI, or Sprint?

You just love me because I'm a lovable loser with a beer and a bag of Doritos. ;-)

We are the machine and we are slaves to the machine and we are the machine and we are... if what you're saying is true, and I believe it might be, then we are making a race of unhealthy consumers who won't be around to consume for very long, so it's flawed logic on the part of the machine and the machine's operators, which is redundant.

I really think that Celebrity is the modern-day pseudo-religion. Movie & TV stars are our gods & goddesses. These people, nine times out of ten, have their jobs because of their physical presentation, not based on talent, in my opinion. But a new trend - especially in sitcoms (keep in mind the target audience) - is to put the "every-man" as the main character. Women are more willing to watch unattractive men than vice versa. So cater to the fat guy so the fat guy can relate. (Fat guys appreciate catering services.) This is also why you see fat, hairy men in pornos with three Playboy Bunnies. I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know.

What I don't understand is, why do we buy the stuff they hawk?  I mean, they have never, ever had it right when it comes to the way things really are out here in reality....and yet, we watch their shows, and buy the crap they hawk....WHY?????? Because we are too lazy? I know that's the case for me.  I choose to look past the crappola and the harm that it is doing to the minds of the small ones who don't look past it.....hmmm....thoughtful post, Cunningone.

To change is hard hard work

One has to better oneself.  More hard work.  It is much easier on the machine to manipulate pork rind mentality than it is for it to manipulate intellectuals.

They lionize the lovable loser, in hopes that he will stay that way and recruit more into the loser league.

A thinking man does not a good slave make.

Still LOVING YOU...me amore!

As a lover of individuality, your post struck a chord with me.  The tendency to become obsessed by and to imitate celebrities these days is pathetic.  It's like saying, "I have a brain and free will but I don't know what to do with them, so here, I'll hand them over to you."   And I'm getting fed up with the way men are being portrayed in commercials, sitcoms, movies, etc.  The way women behave towards men these days is reflective of this, and it proves that those media and their marketing actually do work.  If men are behind this, they need a kick in the ass.  If not, well...then somebody needs a kick in the ass.  Whoa, did I just sound like Archie Bunker?

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with a drop-dead gorgeous wife, I suppose...Sorry, Archie....

all TV shows, advertisements, movies, and every other form of media does this.  And your reward for being perfect is some fat oaf who's more interested in the Bears game than you and your little problems.  The machine is building ugly archetypes for us to follow.  It's scary.

Jojo

come on, you could be married to some chubby lovable loser.  Isn't that what every little girl goes to bed dreaming about?  I tell you what, every chubby lovable loser imagines themselves with some beauty Queen who cooks and cleans up all their problems.  Gee, makes you wonder who's writing the shows.  Sounds like a male fantasy to me.

Cunning,

Yeah, you said a mouth full here....What's also so bad is the 1,000's of young women who see all the beautiful, thin women who play these parts and become so obsessed with their looks they opt for living their confused and very sad lives in plastic surgery and eating disorders. Shadow
