hola amigo -

reminds me of a story my husband likes to tell about a co-worker from Thailand. Get this. He was playing fetch with his dog on the edge of a wooded area.  The dog went to get the stick... and this huge python dropped from the trees and strangled the poor critter.  it's a snake eat dog world.  ;)

Joe,
It seems to me you and this goose have a love/hate relationship. I've kinda held a grudge against her since the first stories of your dealings with her, but I can't help but feel sorry for her now. She's spunky. I like that.

Joe_Love,
don't be afraid of the snake, she likely has come for a visit, but she'll leave you and your dogs alone. I like the little twist at the end of your story -- it's cute. Good read.  red

Just so you can really sleep well tonight
Although Johnny obviously took the eggs, there are species of snake that can grow big enough to swallow a man whole. Apparently they can dislocate their jaws so size matters less.

I hope you have something longer than a bat when you walk around....a snake is a definite possibility as some could easily be doing that to goose eggs....the ground dwelling variety of snake, I mean.  Of course, you've left us dangling with two varieties to wonder about!  How's the little mama doing?   Any particular cravings to report?

Laughs....
actually Joe, By Cruisers I mean people who sail away from their lives ashore in small boats and just keep sailing, as a way of life....Cruise ships are an abomination, though I suppose they could be a fun one if you were into the party scene...and the net is very interesting indeed from the point of social research and theory...

As a city girl forced to live in the country, I also learned that snakes
be real pigs and can eat a goose egg with no problem. But the egg and bacon is a wee bit suspicious. Since there is a snake about--make sure to take a stick with you on walks--they come in handy for whacking the buggers.

posted by Hollee on October 3, 2005 at 4:22 PM | link to this | reply

If I had to make an educated guess,
I'd say it was definitely a snake. Probably a rat snake, or what the old folks at home call a "chicken snake." They raid bird nests, especially ground nesters, and they get HUGE -- can get up to about seven or eight feet long. They're not venomous, but as the old saying goes, if they can make me jump straight off a fifty foot cliff when I see one, they don't have to be.

First, I will want to apologise to you and others who read my post for my late response. For what I am doing during this vacation of mine is an intriguing piece of work. I am keeping my 8 months old son and blogging whenever he permits me to. As for your question; Cameroonians are people or citizens of a west african state called Cameroon. It was founded by the Germans, but when they lost, the WW1 in 1916, their african colonies were handed by the League of Nations, that is, the ancestor of the current United Nations organisation to: Britain, France, Belgium and SoUTH Africa. Cameroon was therefore handed to both France and Britain. I hope I have tried to answer your question. Feel very free to ask anything you wish about Cameroon. Thank you and May God Bless.

Snakes, huh?
First I've heard of it. Do you all have weasels out there, too? Weasels vs. turkeys = nasty. (PS: no, the little black girl kittens have no home yet. We hope to see some action on that by Wednesday, hopefully to someone we know. It's the wrong time of year to give them out to just anyone.)

Joe_Love, haven't I heard somewhere that egg-eating snakes can unhinge their jaws and stretch the mouth skin big enough to swallow just about anything and then re-hinge the jaw.  Then they wrap their body around something hard and squeeze to break the eggshell so they can digest the goody.   But, then there is Johnny.  Can he unhinge his jaw?

Joe--
Poor goose.  Doesn't she have a right to become a mother?  I had a goose egg once.  I found it very thick, deep yellow, almost orange inside, and yucky.  This is a fun piece.  Hemlocker

Joe_Love

Hey City Boy who moved to the Country, I loved the ending.  ha-ha   You really do have a nice way of telling your stories.  I did enjoy reading it.  I kept remembering how my children use to take turns having a duck egg for breakfast. They are nice size, but we only had one duck laying.

I really do appreciate you checking out all my pics.  Although, I love our cats I don't want to be known as just the cat women.  There is more to me than that.  Do you understand?  I post other things too, in other blog categories, although I do delete and clean house often. Do you follow me?  Please, don't let this hurt your feelings, because I don't want that.  If you knew me well, you would know that I wouldn't ever want to do that.  Anyway, I did want to answer your question.  Thanks for the suggestion of selling the one photo.  I've  sold and had published a lot of poetry and stories, but I have never sold a picture.  I truly appreciate you visiting and taking the time to comment.  Seems like you must be pretty nice.  Catch ya later!

Good ol' country neighbors!
AnnaBelle has directed Johhny to take the eggs away and bring them to her - your snake magnets are gone and Johhny gets a quackin' meal. Poor ol' mama goose though; all that hissing for naught. Lol, great work as always JoeLove.

I have poisinous snakes around my house.
My neighbor said the chicken snakes will eat the poisinous snakes.  Good snakes versus bad snakes?  Either way, there's too many snakes.  I hope you don't encounter the snake in person! Take care

leggo my eggo
I guess snakes have elevator jaws that open wide, and their skin is stretchy, so they could swallow a big old goose egg. But my bet is on the toothless guy.  I'd bet they'd fit just fine in an overall pocket, and as I said a couple days ago, they'd make a fine omelette...  Chop up a couple green onions, add some green pepper and you've got breakfast. Ummm...:)

I can't wait to crack the shell of this puzzler.  With the yolk of mystery seasoned by humour, this is turning into one fine omelette!   (I do believe I just made myself hungry).   The part that's cracking me up the most is the daily ritual between two implacable foes.  It's just understood now:  "The goose hissed at me; I chased her away."   Ha ha ha....
