Comments on Fast preparations for Hurricane Rita a sign of favoritism?

I would rather suspect that some of us get their news and talking points over on the dailykos. If God was looking to wipe out a state for lack of moral turpitude, California would have been gone a LONG time ago.

Welcome, drjackson and Justsouno!

Glad to have you on board.

Twodog, thanks for the backup. Always appreciated.

Scoop, make that a wakeup call to cities, townships, parishes, states and every other organization. I think the concept of gettign caught with pants down is perfectly appropriate for New Orleans.

drjackson, you're right, the federal government does not order the states about. I never said otherwise. The federal government makes recommendations to the states, as Bush did to Governor Blank-O to evacuate. The states have the perogative to ignore said recommendations, as she also did.

Debbie, beware, you are sounding like one of those crazed Christian fanatics. Since you raise the spectre of divine judgement, do you consider the corruption of the state and local officials in Louisiana and the crime and debauchery for which New Orleans is so notorious to be the explanation for Katrina? Or are sins punishable only if they are politically incorrect?

I think
... that Texas is way more prepared because they know that God is out to get them and make them pay for their sinful ways. i.e., Worst education system in the nation and highest rate of death by lethal injection. God doesn't want Texas assuming his responsibilities. Repent Texas or run for your lives........

ABSOLUTE CRAP!
The federal government has no authority to go in and tell the state what to do.  They couldn't do it in LA, MS, etc. and they can't do it in TX either.  FEMA is only supposed to be a support system at the disposal of state and local governments of the affected areas.  The national guard is strictly under the command of the governor.  The President can not dictate who does what.

Please stop spreading this factless message.

No I agree Bush had nothing to do with it. Katrina was a wake up call to all the states and we learn by our mistakes so no state wants to get caught with their pants down.

If the media would simply check recent video archives of pre Katrina statements by the former FEMA Director Mike Brown, they would find they mirror the current FEMA Director the day President Bush issued the initial State of Emergency Order at the request of Governor Blanco, on Saturday morning, 27 August.

I personally watched Brown's news conference and the statements mirror each other. Brown said FEMA was forward deploying resources to better respond after Katrina moved on, just as the current FEMA Director on Tuesday, 20 September at 16:00 (4:00 PM) CDT, reported foward deployment of desaster teams.

I would expect a quicker response to Hurricane Rita, all the relief agencies are currently deployed. It only proves elected representatives are more interested in their own political agenda than the people already devistated by Hurricane Katrina, and those facing perhaps greater devistation from Hurricane Rita. It is a disgusting display of political hacks who are desperate to regain a former position of power.

It is interesting to note, the States of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida did not require Federal intervention, assistance yes, but not direct intervention.
