Wow! I experienced
a microburst, several years ago, and can well imagine what you've just been through. I pray that you will receive all the help you might be needing in the days ahead. COURAGE

EDITORMUM, I LIVE IN TENNESSEE, AND I HEARD ABOUT MEMPHIS, BUT
Had no idea it was that bad. I also lived for six years in Jackson, and of course, you know what happen there a few months ago. I live in Nashville now, and be assured of my prayers for you. I have to be in Memphis next week for a church conference.

Mummy
I know Whim already offered, but you can come live with me too. Though, the commute from my house would be significantly greater than the commute from Whimmy's.
I'll pray for you and your family as well as for the rest of the Memphisians.
Love love to ya!

Rough One!
A taste of things to come, perhaps? We've fucked up the climate so much now that things are likely to get a LOT worse before they get better.
BTW, on the air conditioning comment, it may amaze you to know that AC accounts for 16% of US power consumption, costing more than the GDP of 42 African countries.
Hope y'all get back to 'normal' soon.

A theory and a prayer
EditorMum, I'm praying for you and your city. What an awful thing to have happen in the latter weeks of July. The heat and bugs must be unbearable. I have a theory why the straightline winds were not reported as a disaster nationwide. They are harder to explain. If you say tornado, or hurricane, or flash flood, people immediately form an image in their minds. They know the devastation. If you say wind, they look at you like you are nuts. "Wind? Wind did that much damage? Oh, I don't believe that. You must be exaggerating." Here in the redneck world I live in, in Louisiana, when straightline winds do damage, the people affected won't take anyone's word that it wasn't a tornado. No wind could do that. Sometimes the lack of intellegence in people amazes me.

I've missed you, Editormum...
Sorry to hear about the wind damage. Why didn't they report that on the news? Memphis is a large city--it's not like it's Hooterville or anything.

You can move it with me
until you get power back. I have an extra closet to lock the kids in. :) Might be a bit of a commute to work though. . . .

Holy cow!
What a disaster. Not to trivialize all your other inconveniences, but being without air conditioning would surely suck.
