I trained my son to pee in a styrofoam cup - he liked the noise and he liked the bubbles.... He caught on in no time.   Peeing          Peeing In The Snow   Good luck

Symphony

Keep telling him that only babies don't use the potty.  Seems to be a huge thing at that age, they want to be big boys and girls.

Wish I had more info but I never had to do this LOL!

Thank you ever so much for that comment, I truly appreciate it, it makes me feel better that if he cannot crack it yet...he will do one time soon...if he isn't ready (or not improving at all) then I will try again in another month or so.

symph,
my heart goes out to you...as I understand it, potty training can be frustrating and time consuming...I'm not sure what Dr. Phil's advice is, but I imagine he has a strong opinion! I guess I was "lucky" because during those years of my son's life, the daycare he was going to took care of it for me as I had to work full time (not so lucky). I wish you peace and good luck!  red

It'll happen...
What I did with all three of my girls was bought them the panties that they liked the most and put them in their drawer and told them when they were ready to be big girls they can wear the panties.  Eventually, they decided they wanted to wear them and they did it to themselves!  They all did it in their own time, too.  The oldest was almost four before she REALLY got the hang of it, the middle was about 22 months, and the youngest about 27 months.  There is no tried and true way for every kid, that's why I refused to pull my hair out over it.

Symph, carry something he really likes in your pocket at all times,
so that when he uses the potty, you can reward him immediately.

hehehe kooka_lives ...maybe we should help eachother..and compare notes!

I only introuduced a potty to him yesterday it was a novety for him...cos he liked it as a seat, he has run around all day with just underwaer on (he was aware of it because he kept fiddleling with himself) but I cannot get him to actually use the potty to do his buisness in. he rather hide out the way and ruin my floor (LOL)

I am now going to monitor him and observe signs of him needing too...I have had some great advice here and the post before...maybe you should also check out Dr Phil's advice. (link below from Rabbitinthwoods)

I know absolutely nothing about kids and potty training so I'm not much help. Now if it were a puppy instead I could provide all kinds of training tips. Shadow

interesting timing
Last night my wife decided it was time to really start with our two and half year old. We had been kind of working with him before now, but last night he ran around in underwear all evening. She could get him to sit on the potty, but not go. That created the need for a few changes of clothes.

not sure i'd want to spend the $ for the doll, never heard of that, who knows. Info looks real good. Calling someone to share the accomplishment is a good idea too.

>:-} not sure about what the Doc said, but do remember potty training...
>:-} gorsh, that has been AGES ago it seems! Boys tend to be a little slower at it than girls. I used to give mine lots and lots of something they really liked to drink, then sit them on the potty at regular intervals, the bladder can only hold so much. The whole experience had to be wrapped in lots of fun and excitement to work well. Big boy panties (or underwear- whichever term works) have to be worn and changed quickly if there is an 'accident' . An 'oops' or 'aaw' with a clean up, change and 'lets try again' tend to work better than scolding. Once peeing in the potty is accomplished, reward with some small but really special treat. (I used to use M&Ms or skittles. Pooping in the pot may take some additional work. Try to discover approximately what time of day is 'regular' and plan to make use of this. Reward any sign of effort. Best wishes to you!

Symphony,

Ask often if he needs to go.

Find books about potty training and read them with him.

Make sure he has access to lots of fresh undies.

Be very verbal, and positive.

Don't scold for accidents, they are natural and will happen.

Ask him to sit on the potty at regular intervals.

Watch for signs that he needs to go...you'll be able to tell.

Don't expect him to be dry at night in the begining, if he wears undies to bed then make sure you have a vinyl mattress cover, just incase.

Children ussually train around age three, a little sooner than the third birthday.

It takes weeks to get results, sometimes.

It can be done...take care, I luv ya!!!

I saw Dr. Phil episode
don't know why I watched it since I don't have kids. Unfortunately I don't remember much about it. I just remember him practically throwing a party when the kid used the potty. I bet he has something on his website.
