Quirky

I've been out of the loop for awhile....of course, you want the tape and should get whatever kind of copy you can and just have it....you can get it translated, transcribed, dubbed, whatever at some point in the future...just get it.  I'd contact the CBS and NBC affiliates in your town and see if their "getting the bad guys" show might be intereseted in trying to help you on this...you never know...it's a great human interest piece from several angles for them.  And, Medusa is right....go to the top with your letters.  Use your upset energy, Quirky....the squeaky wheel usually gets more attention....it never hurts to try.  Mainly, get the tape....and make a copy to put in a safety deposit box so this doesn't happen again.  Hope you're feeling better.

i would be absolutely devastated too....and I understand completely your need to have it. Get the French version, someone can translate it...get what you can.

After a story they did in June about the shelter where I volunteer, I have decided that 20/20 is pure evil.  Hope you're doing better.

that sucks. i can't imagine how you feel right now. I hope you manage to get your tape back.

Quirky, I can't imagine the disappointment you must be feeling

after having built up all that anticipation.  Take care of yourself and don't let this get you down too much.

Your was particularly touchy. I also think that the fact you can put your feelings on paper shows your level of forgivefulness and grace. Forgetting altogether won't be easy and I can understand. All I can say if I am allowed, is that, it is your full right to have struggled to get what is part of your family heritage. I am amongst those who think any family history positive or negative deserved to be preserved and protected.

Quirk-
I hate that for you...I'm sorry. But you never know, there could be a copy somewhere that you don't know about. Have you tried contacting 20/20? Are there any legal steps you can take against them?

posted by UsualSuspect on September 21, 2005 at 6:10 PM | link to this | reply

Um, I hope you are happy and all, I wouldn't wish this on you, but maybe you could just let it go? It doesn't seem to me to be such a big deal. Well, it IS, but only because you make it a big deal, right?

Sorry, insenstive. Hug.

I send positive thoughts in your direction

I'm so sorry to hear about the boorish behavior of 20/20 & that woman who took advantage of your Mom.  I agree with the consensus of opinion....get the French version translated & tell THE WORLD about the horrific behavior of 20/20.  There will be resolution of this...it will just take some time.  If there is anything that I can do to bring a smile to your face, I will GLADLY do it....all you have to do is tell me.

I don't blame you,
This tape was a part of your history, and had great sentimental value. Whatever the content, the woman should have kept her word.

translated.  Good luck!

Don't give up on getting that tape back yet! At the very least there's a memory of the tape and what it meant to your family. If you get a copy in french you may be able to get someone to translate the transcipt for you so that you can have it in writing for ever.

commiserations...I share the feeling. my parents were photo savers. they were all lost in a great fire. I've nothing to remind me of childhood apart from what is embedded in my memory.

I wish there was a way to help you with this.  A suggestion though I don't if it will work.  Use the media to your advantage...let the world know that 20/20 has your mothers property and you WANT IT BACK!

There must be something that would legally bind you to that tape! Can you please send me some info on the case...I will talk to a few friends lawyers of mine...there must be something we can do!  Big HugHere 4 u Cosy

Quirky,
If you get the French copy, I'm sure any college in the country, especially a media arts or film school, would jump at the chance to either translate it or subtitle it. Don't give up!

Take care!

Quirky,

Get that French tape! I'll translate it for you. I read and speak French. I'm kinda rusty, but, it shouldn't be any problem. As for 20/20, talk to a media lawyer first. I bet he/she would love to take your case if you have any chance of winning. Shadow

>:-| hugs to you (((((((Quirky)))))) ... i'm so sorry for u... i'm with ren

renigade on what she said... take the copy in french and try to get someone to help you with interpreting.... then, you should still be able to get with someone from 20/20.

Don't give up... if this is important to you.. and I sense that it is... it would be to me, I'm sure.... don't give up.

Options always a good thing...

There has to be a way to get the tape from 20/20.  Although I wouldn't let  the French tape go.  Possibly a French translator could help.  I totally understand, it's just having options...most important thing in life.  It may sit on the shelf collecting dust, but if you want it, it's there.  Good luck.

PS:  f you need help, we can all protest 20/20 for the tape back.  I'll grab "Guido" after the next PTA meeting.

posted by LifeByLisa on September 19, 2005 at 8:15 PM | link to this | reply

First, take the French tape anyway. You never know, maybe you can

get some film student to add subtitles as a project.  It's not the same, but at least it's close.  Second, keep badgering 20/20.  Third, what episode of 20/20 was it?  I'd be interested in watching.

Good luck, hun.

How terrible and tragic Quirky
20/20 may claim they have lost or destroyed the tape at this point, but I would try getting it back from them, at least one more time, if I were you. And I'd probably make their outrageous behavior public - writing to newspapers, magazines, etc. I'd also get the French version of the tape. So sorry you are having to go through this. I hope it works out somehow.

Quirky,,,Listen to me...Get back to 20/20....
Donald Trump always says, if you have a problem, go to the top. In other words, get a letter out pronto to the heads at ABC and or 20/20. And I mean, be strong and direct to them. I'm sure they have that tape. Do not give up. In the meantime, keep the french tape for now. I feel so badly for you. I'd help you write that letter to 20/20.

QuirkyAlone, you should ask him for that tape. At some stage you will encounter someone who can speak French and translate or sub-title it for you. I know it is disappointing.

Quirly,
that's really hard on you! I agree that 20/20 should return the original tape. But if I were you, I'd accept the French tape, as well. You can always take classes in French, it's not that hard to understand.
