I too am a newbie since mid July. I didn't hesitate to jump right in... that's my nature... good or bad ;o). I don't take any of it too seriously and though I'd love for my writing to be read and enjoyed... I truly appreciate the interaction and personalities that I've encountered. This is a very social place! :o)

I've been greeted by friendly, outgoing people who seem sincere in their help and advice. I enjoy reading you and learning from you and I thank you for reading me! Think I'll hang around, learn the ropes and become a masterful blogger!! LOL Thanks for sharing and listening, Sandi

Jacenta--

You should DEFINITELY repost them...as you said, not many people knew who you were because you were new...and even if someone already read it, if they click it again and remember, big deal!! I often will repost things I want to get re-read...although sometimes I do rework them a bit.

Thanks for the cake, balloons and b-day wishes!!

Hi Quirkyalone...

Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I first came to blogit I wanted to share my writings.  I just posted one poem or story after another, but I received very little feedback, thus I thought that no one enjoyed them.  Although, the feedback I did get was positive.  Finally, after posting & posting and deleting and deleting, I posted a blog, "How do you make friends on Blogit?"  I really wanted to know.  Several comments posted were sincere, thus I stayed.  Now, I find that many bloggers mean a lot to me.  I feel bad, when they do.  I feel happy, when they are.  I do enjoy Blogitville. I would like to repost the unread writings that I posted when I first came to blogit, for so few were read, but I don't want to upset anyone, if they did happen to previously read them.  Thus, I don't know if I should.

Whenever I think of you, Quirky, you are still holding the black cat in your arms.  Ha-ha.  Can't help it!

Thanks for viewing my Pets blog and have a wonderful birthday.

Tissi--
I think it is way too early to make the statement "obviously no one is interested in my writing." It takes time for others to find you, and in order for them to do that, you must spend some time introducing yourselves to others.

You're right...but they might not realize that they can still enjoy Blogit even if they want to write seriously and forgo the fun and games.

nice advice Quirky

I am a less than month old newbie and not quite sure I'm going to stay for 2 reasons. One is I decided to join here to see if there would be any interest in my writing; obviously there is not. Also though most of you are lovely writers I get the feeling this is more of a paid message board site. As a longtime chat room addict I have never liked message boards because I hate posting and sitting around all day waiting for a response. The atmosphere of a chat rooms instant response appeals more to my ADD side I guess

...And don't forget Quirky, some leave because
they came to write seriously and think that it's all fun and games, so they move on. It does take a while to learn the ropes and it helps if you are a quick study.

Even so, it's still a pity when you see so many people just give up after a while, even if they were just window shopping. I like good writing in general.

Quirky,

I remember what Kay-Ren said about my first blog. I got I suppose a B+ on mine simply because I started a sentence with the word And. Shadow

I'm sorry.  But Kay-Ren gave me an "A" on my first post (back when she was grading them) and I got more than 30 comments on it. Beginner's luck.

Quirky,

Truck driving of course!!! Heck, you even commented on it. Too bad I didn't save that original post when I left for awhile. Well, wouldn't have mattered as the comments would have still been gone. All three of them, LOL Shadow

Yes you did. It is very hard the first few weeks when you get bad comments
then no comments at all. Thank goodness it gets better and sometimes not so! But you did help a lot.

Quirky you helped me so much. You just wrote a comment the size of
a post detailing what I needed to do if I planned to have any success at all. It was such a boost. Thank you so for it. When I first came I didn't know how to add a post. I just wrote a new blog each time I wanted to post a post. LOL BB

I think others started reading me before I realized I should read them....

I was confused by the comments left in my blog and didn't realize I "should" reply or return the click.  I also didn't post more than once a week for the first 2 months.   So... not sure what that all amounts to?   I'm not your average case as I didn't come looking for Blogit... I was dragged here by a friend.  LOL

Many of them just don't seem interested in learning "how" to develop a readership, as though it should just happen...and then they leave disappointed, which is sad.

Quirky,

I know you read my first post, so don't try and make me feel special. You started blogit posting, what, two weeks before I did? LOL Shadow

posted by Keshet on August 18, 2005 at 8:54 PM | link to this | reply

I gotta admit I bungee jumped headfirst and was lucky I didn't crack my skull, but I find building readership and everything that is required to make a blog successfull fun. I think it's how much you enjoy a challenge that plays a factor in how long you'll stick.

They think that Blogit is hard on them
Just wait until they actually try to sell a published article, and get rejected the first few times. They will just quit, and never realize that if they just hung in there a little while longer that success could have been theirs from sheer perseverance. Oh well, their loss.

I've wondered that too Quirky
and why they don't make an effort to build a readership if that's why they're here. I've left comments explaining the "game" to a few, but it doesn't seem to help much. It is give and take, just like everything else in life.

posted by Julia. on August 18, 2005 at 8:01 PM | link to this | reply

it does get tiresome sometimes, leaving a comment,

but it is the only way for the author to know you have been there! Sometimes, like here, I comment because I wanted to, but sometimes, I am not above commenting even when I dont quite feel like....especially with irregulars like me, it is difficullt to establish a good readership!

Great post:)

Quirky,

As a newbie once (sometimes still think I am), I made some good bloopers, but, being the cautious type of person I am, I spent a couple of weeks myself reading posts and doing as much homework as possible before making that first post. It still was a flop, but, at least I did get some notice. Shadow

I guess there are also some people who just want to write and aren't interested in 'playing the game,' so to speak. Or they have lives and don't have the time to spend here that all of us do!
