There's irony for ya, kingmi: Iran getting their asses bombed for the sake
of creating a bigger and better bomb...

I think you are right with respect to the establishment of a continuing
presence in the region. Turkey wasn't close enough, I guess.

Kissinger is a war
criminal. He was one of the chief, if not THE chief architect of the Viet Nam War. His perspectives are strictly pragmatic. As for the human side, the casualties, et al., for him it's just about planning and tactics. Having said that, I think Bush and his folks did have a plan, and that was to build tons of American bases and establish a strong presence in the region forever--or until the oil ran out. Hemlocker

I'm with you on this, Pat_B. I just had a cousin, a supply officer who
rode the convoys, refuse to reenlist because he didn't want to go back to Iraq.

No way do I support
Mr. Bush's decision to attack Iraq. It was wrong-headed from the start, considering that Iraq had not been proven to have anything to do with the 9-11-01 attack on New York. By sending Americans into this war, the President has added 50 percent to the American death toll, and has multiplied exponentially the number of victims among the Iraqi civilian population. I have two grandchildren involved - one is a Marine, the other an Army National Guard member engaged in driving transport vehicles along Iraq's deadly roads. I waver between fear for their safety and a sense of futility about the purpose that would be served should they be killed or wounded.
