Yes, twodog, a little freedom might go a long way, just as long as it is an

Iraqi or Afghani type of freedom.  However, marching roughshod over the Middle East may be Dubya's goal (it sometimes seems that way with his constant threats), just so he can set up little Arabic versions of the U.S.  Selling freedom overseas while crippling it at home is kind of hypocritical, don't you think?

As for your son, I hope he makes it home safe and hale.  As I do all that remain in Afghanistan and Iraq (and anywhere else in the world our troops are stationed).  Although I know this sounds strange, but a lot of people share this sentiment (something to do with fallout from the Vietnam experience, no doubt) -- I appreciate and support everything our guys in uniform do, but I wish that damned war ended yesterday (actually, I wish it had never begun, but that can't happen).

Seventeen hundred fifty KIA's are seventeen hundred fifty too many. I've got a stake in this, my son has already received a tentative rotation schedule and he's only been home since march. But, over ninde hundred Second Marine Division men were killed, and near two thousand wounded, in twelve hours at Tarawa during the Second World War. How many died at the Second Battle of Mannassas? The Boss has it right, saul, freedom is addictive, once it's been experienced, you never want to loose it. Two free countries slap dab in the middle of the Middle East can only be a good thing. Remember, that is where most of the world gets their oil. Wouldn't it be prudent to try to stablize the most unstable region in the world with a little freedom?

One Thousand...
...seven hundred and fifty five.

Avoidable. Unnecessary. Tragically sad.
