militarywife. This is a very tense issue and both sides have their points.
the fog of war clouds our minds and our patriotism is sometimes misplaced, or over-the-top.

I can't even begin to imagine what you witnessed. I can only pray that the next generation doesn't have to deal with this again.

We are not a rock or an island as the song....
in Simon & Garfunkel says. It goes to say, "and a rock feels no pain." I hurt for those who are suffering, for they are real, their families are real and they suffer just as I would. It saddens me so, that they are experiencing this. My prayers and best wishes are with them!

Your husband and me see a lot of heart breaking things every day. I have to concur the kids are the worst. They arnt trained killers. Saddly some of them are raised with beliefs as some American children. That we a different and that makes us evil. So sad, great post, I think you beat me to my rant on this subject.

Very good post.
It's when events like this happen that we get a good look at the inner workings of people. Civilians have always been targets in times of war, so why should we be surprised when our enemy selects to do the same thing that we did in all the wars we've been involved in. People also seem to forget that the British have lived under the threat and actions of terrorists for over twenty years now. They've seen it from the IRA and other groups. It wasn't until our eyes were slapped open by 9/11 did we realize the threat that terrorism posed. We pretty much even blew off the first attack on the trade centers. Perhaps if we would have taken more interest then 9/11 never would have happened.

Holy Grail
Maybe when my husband comes home, he will tell some of the stories of the children. The children are what rip at his heart the most....several of my soldiers have spoken of them. They are just kids who are trying to survive in a war torn country. Killers? NO, just kids.
Unfortunately from reading a few around here, I think anyone who doesn't fit the appropriate profile is going to take heat.

Some of the reactions - and non reactions - I've heard have been a bit baffling. Like the women at work who said that "that country" (Afghanistan??Iraq??) should just be "blown off the map" because even the children are trained to be killers. I hope this doesn't cause big problems for people here who are of Arab descent like 9-11 did. That was heartbreaking. And as for London 'finally' knowing how we felt, have these people ever heard of the IRA or World War II??

It's unbelievable the things that people think and say.
I've been worried about Symphony simply bec of what happened to her last week, not to mention other friends and bloggers around here who live in London. How could we not care about their shock and dismay?
