I think I should have listened to that inner voice on many more occasions than I did.

Quirky Great advice that everyone should "listen to". Shadow

Quirky this is a very good post. So true. I have never gone against my
gut when I wasn't sorry I did. Good post and good advice. Thanks for stopping by my place for the holiday. Thank you for your comment I truly agree. The country needs it's holidays.

Oh this is great and yes, yes, yes, I do try and hear that little voice all the time luv

It does look wrong. Maybe because I don't use the word often.
Next time I hope I'll be wiser and not delete stuff with gay abandon.

Krisles, yes...indeed--good observations.

Actually, I think we subconsciously have ALL the facts, it's just a matter of "hearing" the information that is there.

Quirkyalone
I agree with your post and with your last comment about getting quiet enough to listen.  I also want to note how it is interesting that DV brought up a very (and please don't think that I think you are typical in any way, Dylan) stereotypical "male" viewpoint...get the facts, when we are discussing a very stereotypical "female" subject of intuition.  I think it has even been established scientifically that we women tend to listen to those inner voices more because we collect more data from body language, voice tones, etc. that we ourselves may not even be aware we are collecting.  We may actually have more "facts" than we are consciously aware of having about a situation.

mmm-w,
I thihk it doesn't take fine-tuning so much as just stopping to get quiet long enough to really listen and to hear...

posted by Julia. on July 4, 2005 at 5:19 PM | link to this | reply

we should know ourselves better then anyone else does.... so i have to say that where i feel we should always listen to our gut, sometimes that needs to be fine tuned with a little patience rather then impulse...

Dylan,
Perhaps you're right...but I don't really think instinct or intuition is influenced by "facts"---

posted by Julia. on July 4, 2005 at 3:43 PM | link to this | reply

Yes, I think the first instinct is often right...

...but I wouldn't go as far as to say "always" right, because sometimes we have incomplete information, and our instinct will thus tell us the wrong thing.

Our minds need to gain complete information and then let instinct have its way.

Merry,
People find all sorts of reasons to ignore their intuition, but I believe it isn't "almost always right" as you say..it is always right. I don't believe the subconscious is capable of "not knowing" the truth...

Quirky,
this is one of the things that I often tell people who come to me for advice. You already know what to do, it's just not what you want to do, or what is easiest. A cop friend of mine says that most people end up in trouble when they don't trust thier gut. If you feel uneasy about the guy who is going to get on the elevator, get off, or push the close doors button. Your instincts are almost always right.

word.,
Yeah, it's amazing how we can ignore something so loud. BTW, you spelled shriek is correctly. It looks kinda weird, but it's correct.

posted by Julia. on July 4, 2005 at 2:15 PM | link to this | reply

Yeah, that still small voice became
a deafening shriek (how the heck do you spell shriek anyway?)  when I was deleting my user profile that had ALL my documents at work, but did I listen? Nooooooo. Result? I'm now basically starting over. All logos gones, all documents gone, all email gone. And I still haven't got them back yet.
