JohnMcNab, you're right. I will have time in 2007 I think

MayB
The other blog sounds like an excellent idea, MayB.   If you have the time and energy.

Absolutely MayB...
...but for some blogging is an outlet away from their writing..and for some, like me...it is a discipline that keeps me writing daily. When I took a break from it I wasn't writing daily (for possible publication) ..as I thought I would..now it's therapeutic for me..even though it does still take me 10X longer to write a piece as it did before my surgery. It's exercise for my mind..the same as physio is for my body.

Ginnieb, for some people it does work that way but not me. For me, it is arguable that I should reconsider whether blogging is good for me because what I do here at leas is too far removed from what I do professionally. I mean blogging might be good for me on a personal level but it may be stealing time and attention from other writing. But everyone could make a similar evaluation

So MayB....
...I'm assuming that blogging cannot be regarded in any way as 'being published.' I wouldn't have thought so except technically we are getting 'paid' for our writing here. And very true, I regard several people on here as my friends. :)

Ginnieb, many people here are real to me and I regard them as friends. No I would never use the blogs as clips but yes I have thought that I should try to write a blog which I could use as a clip.

L.E. Gant, I receive the validation for writing under a pseudonym and that is that I am paid. I agree that it is no big deal in that situation. Ghost-writing is something else and the more I hear about it the less I want to do it. I could do it for some business text but not for fiction or such.

Mary x, no my post was not to disparage people or how genuine they are. I just wonder that it would be worth posting as oneself when most of the readers and respondents do not reveal as much

Cassandra, I think it is best to use your own name for your most important work unless it is dangerous

Jemmie, yes it is that escape factor which makes it best that way

MerryAnne, yes. I think it is better this way

I wrote a blog about this once,
Only my husband and few others know I blog. As far as I know none read it. My "real" writing I do under my own name(s) my married name and my maiden name.

I think the majority of us do the same thing.

I don't tell many people about my blogging.  In fact, I find myself often wishing that I had never told the folks I have told about my blogging.  In some cases, I don't tell folks because I don't think they'd take my writing in a blog seriously.  In other cases, it's that I actually don't want people to know my most innermost thoughts and feelings.

Odd...since when I read blogs such as Dave Barry's, I know that people take his blog seriously--or rather as an extension of his former column.

But for me, since my "real" writing is a lot more serious than my blogging, I tend not to tell people about it.

I found this interesting as I'm in the process of working out what name I want to use if I ever become a published author. There are obviously pros and cons for using one's own name.

Mayb,
You may be writing under a pseudonym (as we all are here), but the events and opinions are real. We construct our personalities daily on Blogit and are known by our interactions, opinions, beliefs, etc.  It doesn't make them any less "real" or valid within our circle here.

The trials and tribulations of being a pen-name writer! You could get an affadavit for what you wrote under a penname - the editor paying you knows who you are, so can vouch that it's your work. Similarly, if you work for an organisation, and do the writing, you can get someone to vouch for your contributions, even if you don;t have a by-line (at least while there is still someone there who knows you worked there).

But ghost-writing is worse: there is nothing to identify you as the writer; the copyright belongs to the person who paid you, and they are under no legal (or moral) obligation to state that you actually did the writing. And, since you have been paid for the effort, you can't come back at them if the work is a real success. I wish I had realised that years ago, when I ghost-wrote a best-seller, and asked to be identified as part of the writing team. It would make getting published (again)a lot easier.

MayB....
Do you mean that you were thinking of using your material on blogit as 'clips'? I know that is not the term you would use at your level of writing but were you thinking of using your writings here as part of your resume? Have you ever thought of a webpage of yourself, your work, where prospective employers could easily find you? And ....aren't we real? Some questions on a rainy spring day. ;)

I was going to hang out til I clocked a page view. Why? I don't know. I had some time to hang about but 30 mins is enough to wait for interaction. Catch you later when there are people about.
