Whacky, I landed in your town after skidding halfway across OKL and NM over Christmas.  The new world starts in Albuquerque!  I wrote a poem about it!

There are more queer sounding names in the geography of towns.

Thanks for reading my blog.

It is a great name...
....never been there myself..or seen a roadrunner..looked for one while in Arizona last year. I'm sure it's beautiful there!

Witchflower...

It's a lot different now than it was then.  Unfortunately, the PD is fairly corrupt.  I have a lot of friends on the force that have many stories to tell, and my sister used to be the attorney for the APD.  Handled waaaaaay too many excessive use of force cases.  She was the deputy warden before that at the pen, now she's a judge.  She says, gotta fix from the inside out... but it's a big job.

AnnandBenjamin...unfortunately, New Mexico has the highest rate of unemployment now in the entire United States.  My family still lives there, I keep up.  Some of the worst traffic, and the crime rate is the worst (in the top 10 per capita).  It's too bad.  It's a beautiful state with great history.

An unusual name draws in tourist dollars. The standard of living must be good there.

Loved The Land of Enchantment

We lived in Sandia Knolls, east of Albuquerque in the mountains, in the mid-1970s.  Outside of being a complete financial disaster (and I mean complete), we loved it there.  Albuquerque was close enough, and it was a nice city and easy to navigate, and living in the mountains is just wonderful.

Very interesting details.  I knew it was The Duke City, but wasn't quite sure why.  I noticed in the runaway bride stories that the media neglected to call it the Sunport.  I don't know why people would make fun of it.  I loved it there.  If finances had been different, we would have stayed forever.  As it was, we made the disastrous move to Oklahoma, and finally escaped back to Wisconsin, our original home.  Still get nostalgic about NM, though, when I allow myself to think about it.

I've read some things by Lois Duncan, a writer who lives there, and whose daughter was murdered several years.  She claims the PD is fairly corrupt.  I'd like to hear an opposing viewpoint on that one.

I grew up there...
I'm glad if you like it, I hated it.  I miss some things about it now....the sunsets, the sopapillas, the balloon fiesta.  But, I would never want to live there again!  I thought it was funny to see the runaway bride walking through the airport though.  :)
