That's what scares me most about religious folk
Like our president who seems to be willing to drag as many people as he can along with him to a potential meltdown (or Armageddon-an idea that seems to give so many religious folk a woody), hurtling us all to the "after-life" - with the 70 vestal virgins or whatever other ridiculous myths there are out there, promises, promises...

Concur!

It does not matter if you are religious or not, you will die some day and some how.  Maybe peacefully, maybe horrifically.  Either way, people tend to think if you are a religious person you will live to a ripe old age.  I always though your relationship with your god had to do with the afterlife.  To think your god does not care because s/he let you die would be to think your afterlife is not going to be a good one.  In fact, don’t most of us believe it will be better than this place?  So I say, come on death!  Bring it on!

What Really Frightens Me Is This

That the article was on a back page!  It sounds like a horrible accident.  And four generations of people is pretty significant.  Maybe not front page news (unless it happened in Hawai`i), but not news to be shoved as an afterthought to the back page.

And I tend to agree with you about religious folk.
