May I digress momentarily?
I was on a plane once and as we were coming in to land, the flight attendant said: " We shall be landing momentarily." and I thought: "And then what? Shall we be taking off again right away?" For momentarily means FOR a moment, and not IN a moment!!!! This drives me NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTS!!!!!!!!!!! Aah, that's better, thank you.

As long as you know the difference between

your and you're and there and their, etc. yeah a little time spent editing helps

word.smith,
that's all it really takes, a few minutes to edit or proofread, right?

posted by Julia. on March 18, 2005 at 12:45 PM | link to this | reply

OK, we all need these reminders now and then.

I'm neurotic when it comes to editing before I post so I catch most of those niggling errors.

Can I stand up for the misspellers...
since I know I'm one of them.

I was reading an article a couple of days ago that talked about writing, and why so many folks write hominyms (sp?). It's actually a brain/hand problem. Many folks write by sound, not my sight. So they type a word the way it sounds, not by its meaning.

That being said you sould always proof read everything, including comments, before hitting the post button.

Slurs...

Hehehee!  It was much easier in the days when people didn't slur their language!  Slurring (at least in the UK) is a modern day thing - maybe in the last 40 years or so.  Blame it on the sixties!

isn't ~ is not, didn't ~ did not, wasn't ~ was not, don't ~ do not, wouldn't ~ would not, shouldn't ~ should not

I have issues with the word 'lie' and 'lay', but that's a matter of aesthetics, see my Blog for today.  Ack!!  I slurred.  It's insidious... oooh nooo, not again!

Damn, PoopyH, I HATE this, too!
I really don't know why certain things get under my skin, but this is definitely one of those things! I really hate the "your" "you're" thing! About 6 years ago, I had a girl working as one of my receptionists (obviously NOT for long) who constantly wrote "diarrhea" into medical files as "diahreah," "diarreaha," or "vommitting" etc. Yeah, that's professional. It's especially irritating when ya have to fax the records to other hospitals or to a specialists' office. Makes us look like idiots!

Hi Quirky!
Grammatical errors like this one make me crazy! I run into it all the time while reviewing medical reports.

Then there's to, too, and two. Should have, not should OF, etc.

Hehe. Nice rant :)

Quirky

You're right.  It may be a little thing, but it BUGS me!  You should see me when I'm playing games on Pogo.  Whenever I see someone in the chat area use the wrong form, I scream at them the correct one.

Them-1: tyvm

Them-2: your welcome

Me: YOU'RE YOU'RE YOU'RE

And they usually don't even get why I am saying that.  They usually go, "Huh?"

*rolls eyes*
