DEVILINME,
That is the best thing to hear! That is so exactly right on. IMO, feed before ya leave, or maybe even pump and BRING A BOTTLE with when leaving the house with the baby! I don't see the trouble in that and it spares others from (and the perves out there) an unsolicitated free "show"

LOOK, I BREAST FED BOTH OF MINE! AND I NEVER THOUGHT
twice about popping out a boob no matter where! lol...JK. I did breast fed both of mine, but I never drug it out for everybody and they momma to see. If I went somewhere, like out to eat, or to the mall, I made sure I fed right before I left. And that was few and far between. Because of the fact that I breast fed, I stayed home. And if for some reason I thought the kid was just starving to death, I either left and went home, or hit the bathroom for about a 5 min feed before I left. It is a beautiful thing between a mom and a child. But who am I to make others witness it. Some people without kids, or even some with kids, find it disgusting. It's their opinion, and since we are in public, I have to respect that. Besides, I don't anyone seeing my boob! Just because you got a tot suckin on it, doesn't give some nasty perv the pleasure of a peep show. That's my boob, and it's just for me and, well, no one now. lol.. its all mine now!

This is educational for me. It's good to listen to "the other side"...though given the choice between just sitting on a bench in the mall and trekking out to my car, I'll still sit on a bench in the mall. It's just a boobie.

SpitFire,
There are some breastfeeding advocates that are so bent upon making a point of the naturalness of it all, that though more private areas are available, they pick the most public spot possible to handle their business.

Well, Yoleo, I'm glad you weren't offended!
I do understand that sometimes ya have no choice, but a bit of discression is necessary. Some just literally don't make a smidge of effort to cover up or turn away from the public eye and it's just, well, wrong! I realize public bathrooms tend to be gross, but I have seen some women that could have easily found a more private (clean) area to do so. If not, even their car!

As for breastfeeding in public.... this is similar... a friend of my moms a few years back was in out living room and having a conversation with my dad then out goes her boob to breastfeed her kid
I saw this woman once breastfeed her kid as she pushed around a trolley in a supermarket! uhhhh

This is an interesting post
and look at all the comments! I am compelled of course to put in my $.02, which is that I do breastfeed in public.....I've never actually seen anyone
try to expose their breasts....and I don't
try to either....but (1) the baby (at least mine) does not like to be covered by a blanket and pulls it down....again and again....and (2) around 6 months they like to do this thing where they take a little drink and then look behind them (thus exposing the breast). And public bathrooms are gross....so I think we can try to be discrete, try try try....but it wont always work. It was helpful to read your post....I've never understood why it is offensive to some people and now I do, moreso than I did anyway.

Rach,
Well, as I said to MerryAnn, if it's descrete, I have no probs with that. But some women just whip em out like they're pulling a rabbit out of a hat. It's just uncomfortable when they're totally exposed; even for me and I'm a woman! I suppose you could now say that you'd rather have a baby with food all over her rather than a handful of shit in your bed, though, huh?

LOL I agree abou tthe dirty faces. Actually I had to laugh because just yesterday at my son's Karate class, there was a woman with her three kids who she couldn't handle, she was breastfeeding one, and the other two were screaming dirty messes with gnarled hair. I breastfed and I have to say sometimes you just have to whip it out, with blanket covering of course

and yes, according to the parental committee, I was a handful and a half. Personally, I think I was an angel. I get the thing about the boobs leaking. I know sometimes all it takes for a nursing mom is to HEAR a baby cry and off they go. But I'm talkin' about the ones that just whip 'em out no matter where they are. Blach. Oh, and that's okay, your secret McDonald's thang is safe with me. I won't tell anyone.

Hmm...
Well, I agree with the dirty baby thing. I had three, and I didn't like it if they got their food all over their faces.
The breastfeeding thing. Well, I'm a HUGE breastfeeding advocate. I breastfed for 51 months altogether. Talk about commitment. And, I think that women should be allowed to breastfeed in public. No, they don't need to have their boob hanging out, but if the kiddo has to eat, the kiddo has to eat. They're hungry and believe me, a public bathroom wouldn't be the most comfortable place to breastfeed, either.
I guess it's just a difference of opinion. Having had a lot of breastfeeding experience, I believe discreet public breastfeeding should be tolerated by everyone.
And no, you didn't piss me off! :)

Hey Spitfire,
I do agree with the food thing, although it is funny the first time a kid tries to eat on thier own and basically sticks a spoon in their ear. but then you've got to clean it up.
As for breastfeeding, I have breastfed in public, discreetly. But, in the same way that I would never take my Big Mac to the public rest room for lunch, I would never take my baby into a germ infested public washroom to feed her either. That is way more gross than anyone seeing a flash of my breast from ten feet away.

I have taken a messy kid picture or two-
it will make it much more convenient down the line to whip out a picture and say- "Do you see what I had to clean up several times a day? Now don't complain about cleaning your room! Go do it!"
As for breastfeeding - I don't care if it is done discreetly. I have had to do it myself when my first was little just because he ate so often. But I would head to the least populated place I could find and hide everything. I am grossed out by seeing a huge breast hanging out at a party because she had a nursing baby. I don't need to see it and I am pretty sure the kid doesn't either...

Well, damn woman, are you telling me that me and Jimmy have to...
....stop having sex in public places now? I mean, just last time he was here, we were at McDonalds, I was dying for a milkshake, and he just threw me across the table. It's the natural thing to do, so what IS the problem? Kidding, well, maybe not....I'll allow the mystery. ;) As far as breast feeding, I know from having friends with kids is sometimes they can't always get to a bathroom, plus, there is no really non-icky place to sit, and if they don't feed right then their nipples leak. Seriously. Big wet patches on the front of their shirts. I don't mind if it's in public....my girlfriends always just cover up both them and boobies with a blanket so you can't see anything if they need to be out in public, but most try to at least turn away a bit from folks. Sometimes there just isn't a choice. I feel you on that kid thing....I am fully grossed out by the food all over the place. Hello? Wet wipes? Miracle of modern science?
As far as beautiful Aries women goes, I've always thought you were quite the beautiful girl, and that picture of you as a little girl there is beyond adorable. I bet you were a handful! What am I saying? You still are! One of your best qualities. :)

Interesting points made, Spitfire...
I'm going to have to say that I agree with you, although my pcg (political correctness guilt) levels are going through the roof. I find it very uncomfortable to be around someone who is breastfeeding. Can't place why, it just does. And some kids are barely cute without the remnants of their last meal on their faces, why on earth would you want other people to see them looking like they just dipped their heads in a trough?

Spits, I think you're right.
They even put the muck faces on TV commercials. Then the little piggies get a big prize on the funniest home video show. Make me want find azz to kick. And if people can defend breast feeding in public as being natural, isn't taking a shit on the floor? Or maybe pissing at the back of the bus? Kicking somebody's azz seems pretty natural to me, especially when breast feeding in public is being done.

Dear Spitfire, your blog brought me back to Peru, where I once spend almost an hour in the backseat of a taxi next to a young woman who was breastfeeding her child at a certain moment. We were all packed in the back (8 people in total in that taxi) and I was practically sitting on her lap. Her husband was sitting in the front of the car trying to sleep and I always felt that at least he should be sitting next to her. Anyway, I saw a lot of the secenery from the Andes mountains on one side (not all men are pervs you know!
) during that ride. Take care!
