(1) "urinal cakes"... Believe it or not, I have a client who cleans toilets. One of the pieces I wrote for him (in his "catalog" of servies) was based on a study of the effects of different forms of shit and their splash patterns, as well as one in "praise" of NOT using unrinal cakes
(2) I write to write, and I don't give a damn about rankings in blogit. I joined because I wondered if I could get it to pay for itself, either directly (clicks) or through getting people interested in my other writings. It has. Nothing more to prove, so I'm staying with blogit for the "halibut" (came out of Word's suggestions when I wrote "hellofit" in a letter I was sending to family).

Yes, it took my friend to remind me that readers were really reliant on my work for information and that I must never undervalue the significance of that.
Here it is much easier to understand the value that others place on you because you can see that you are getting 2 or 3 readers for any specific blog. Here is it is best if you value yourself because it is quite likely you will never be read.

I must write and it is important to me to write for an audience and to give that audience the best that I can whether it be giving information or entertaining.
Recently I described to a friend who used to be here and who writes about very serious issues that the work I was currently doing did not have much value. They told me that I should not under-estimate the writing I do or the function it serves. I would say the same as they said to me to you.
I am too busy to care too much about rankings but I suppose I would say that if I was playing that game I would want my effort to be recognized.

Real Talk
I write for myself, then for my readers. I attempt to convey what I think or how I feel (being true to myself) in an interesting and/or creative manner (to pique y'all's interest). It's kinda like poetry: the author may write about love or pain or whatever, but he or she attempts to convey it in a creative manner.
Rankings ... I'm really not concerned with them. I could conjure up some attention-grabbing titles just to get clicks, but for me, it ain't about that.

Interesting question
I write for a little of all of the above. What's nice about here is,unlike when I write at work,I have complete control. So when I sink or swim I know it's all me and not something someone else insistided on adding that made it unreadable (or more readable).

Good post!
I think I write (on Blogit) mainly for myself . . . keeping in mind the people here.
Who I am writing for depends on what and where I am writing.

Quirky,
Most of my job involves writing technical requirements. The fun part is trying to figure out how to make everything work, sometimes. Other times there are too many "players" who are pulling for their favorite feature or programming tool, or whatever and they make the job almost impossible! I like blogging, because no matter who I'm writing the post for - I'm writing it beause I want to.

I do both Quirkster,
In my freelance work I write what I think will sell. But all my other writing is for my own personal satisfaction. But it's nicer if someone reads it and likes it... :P

The only blog I write for me is my life story. And eventually I want that book read! The others, heck I write what I want to and hope it hooks other people's interest as well.
