zarrothepaun,
Thank you so much for the sweet compliments. So, do you really suspect I'd be cut to ribbons by him? Well, maybe you're right. However, if I could duct tape his yapper shut for a few minutes, I bet I'd get a few good points (and zingers) in!

I can see why you're so popular.

A great tech writer with a heart. You should afford Rush the same luxury, I read your stuff about him a while ago. You could put him in a cage and maybe in a week or ten days you guys might be so attached you wouldn’t want any one else, or maybe not? It was of some interest to me however that you made such a ridiculous challenge to meet him in debate. Just, I suppose, a publicity ploy for readers is my guess. You would be cut to ribbons especially if on his show. And it will never happen, you can take comfort in that. But, take heart, you are a great writer and it seems a great person, I really like you. Lets talk some more. A new fan, zarrothepaun alpha

No prob, erinlove.

Email me anytime. Did you try to wait for Mom to come back to the nest, though? Well, I guess I'll get the scoop in your email.

I know it Spitfire! It was crazy! I was at my grandmother's house and
there were people trimming her trees and they came and told my mammaw that they found a nest of squirrels.  Luckily, I was there and took the only one that was still alive in the nest.  I am curious about raising this one because..................I think I might e-mail you if that is ok.

Sweet little feller! Had a wild jack pine squirrel in the house once
--he was quite active in every available dimension!  I think we finally chased him out a window!

erinlove, btw, where did you get this one from?

OMG, erinlove!
What have you gotten yourself into? Oh, Lordy. Well, good luck. Let me know if I can help.

Well, Spitfire, I got another one! This one is little bitty though. Alot
smaller than Stinkerton.  She has made it through one night, so I hope I can help her make it through many more!

Thanks Symph!
Glad you liked them! He's rotten, but worth it, I guess.

No time, Quirk. Besides, he's fallen from high places,
jumped (or flew) to not so smart places and wiped out, and well, he just doesn't seem to learn any lessons. Bad memory or just not the brightest apple on the tree? Who knows.

If you start now you can surely teach him a Pet Star-worthy trick can't ya?

posted by Julia. on February 27, 2005 at 3:38 PM | link to this | reply

I'm sure the only thing he could do on Pet Star
would be to fly to one's face when they're least expecting it and punture one of those little needle nails into the corner of one's eye. Yeah, he's pretty damn good at that!!

posted by SpitFire70 on February 27, 2005 at 3:37 PM | link to this | reply

Now if only you could teach him to waterski he could be on Pet Star...oh wait, they already had a waterskiing squirrel...better come up with something else...make him earn his keep and win the $5,000!!!

InKeepersD!!! How the hell are ya?
I've missed you!!

Mia, oh yeah, I do remember promising you I'd post these pics!
Yeah, he's a cutie. He's a bit of a handful at times, though. In fact, he flew to my face and scratched me right under my eye again. That's twice now that he's done that! The good thing about Flyers is that they are very good at grooming themselves and they poop in a self-designated area of their cage so he rarely poops when out loose. UNLIKE the other regular gray squirrels I raised! Yick. I had to constantly keep tissues with me to clean up after them!

Yes, if they are not careful next time, THEY will end up on that grill!! LOL! See ya!! VOYAGER9940

Tanool, he is cute. Funny, too.
I've always loved squirrels ever since I was a little girl!

Jems, if he could talk, I would be scared to hear what he'd be saying!

Voyager, that's too funny!
But eeeew, a half eaten steak. Bet it was stolen off a neighbors grill! Lay low for a while!

I know Temple!! Boys will be boys.
As far as the pet store thing, yeah, I don't like them either. Especially when they're selling exotics like Flying squirrels. They have special needs and do not make good pets unless they're raised by the owner from at least under 6 weeks of age. That's the only way they bond with a human and they know who "their human" is.

Dear Spitfire, one of them (my youngest 3,5 years)) does! The rabbit is rather big, so he won't bite it but only chase it for playing, and the rabbit very much enjoys that even. The gerbil is different! It's tamed, so it can walk on my hands and shoulder and so but then I have to be very aware, because the youngest would grab it immediateley. Other then that, they come home a lot with mice, birds, frogs .... and even a half eaten steack once!!! Wherever they took that, I've never known!! VOYAGER9940

Lord knows I WISH I COULD, Taps!!
They're way too small and he'd never stay still for that! I just encourage him to play on certain things so he kind of naturally files them down.

JJ, he has plenty of darkness in his cage,
but when he's out loose, sometimes the light in the room bothers him. I usually have dim lights on when he's out. What's wrong with your comment thingie?

Voyager-
I take it your cats don't go after the gerbil or rabbit!

He's just too adorable!
I can almost hear him saying, "Mommy!  Let me out of this place!!!"

Just curious, Spitfire.   Could you clip his nails like some people do their cats?

He is so cute...
I got to hold one of these little guys once.  Unfortunately, he was in a pet store.  I don't know how they found him...but I hate to see animals in pet stores. :(  This looks like such a great place for him to play.  You can't blame him for wanting to crawl around in your shirt though, he is a boy after all. ;)

Spits,

This comment machine is screwing up, so you might get something weird.

Since your only problem seems to be his wanting to escape the light by getting under your shirt, I suggest a cage cover of anything heavy enough to keep out the light, but designed to allow sufficient air. I can't do any stinkicons or colors so, as always,

Hey!!! Thanks for teaching me! I know A LOT about hamsters and so, but not squirrels. Right now, I have a gerbil, next to a rabbit and two tomcats. See you soon! VOYAGER9940

Voyager, nope. Only Flying Squirrels are nocturnal.
Regular squirrels are most active within 2 hours after sunset and 2 hours before sundown. That''s when you'll see them chasing each other and playing (and mating during mating season.) "Flyers" are nocturnal and are only active during the night hours.

Gosh indeed, LOTS of space there for him now! Never knew he was nocturnal, I guess not all squirrels are like that? Voyager9940
