He cheated and should be punished accordingly.
"I didn't know I was committing the crime" and "This is the only time" are good defenses against taking away any of Sammie's records or other stats - but come on. The guy blatently cheated. 8 games is nothing.
As a fan I love the guy, and don't want him to miss an inning. But what's right is right. What's wrong is wrong, and 8 games has practically no impact on Sammie and is hardly a punishment. If you are correct, and we buy his story, then I'd say the suspension is about right.
