Symphony,
Yep, I have to watch my sarcastic sense of humor when writing or emailing, cause like you said, the body language doesn't translate. I hope you and your cousin made up okay and she's not still "pissed off" (American version) at you.

Symphony
I used to get confused as to why Americans said - "I'm pissed" meaning angry rather than drunk. At least here in Oz, and I assume its the same in Britain that we say, "pissed off" when we're angry and use the word "pissed" on its own to mean "I'm drunk" ("I'm pissed).
My personal fave for awkwardness is fanny. Here in Australia it does not mean bum, bottom, butt as it does in the States, but rather the other side of the female anatomy - at the front not the back! So I piss myself laughing (whole different meaning for the word piss) when I hear them refer to Fanny-bags (which we call bum bags over here).
What are they called over there where you are?

Good post!
Things can get so complicated on a computer screen! Even words said in jest can be taken seriously and start awful arguments.

It's a different world up North as well Symph. The wonders of language never cease to amaze me. Dave.

So very true, Symph. Writing is "one sided" as we can't see expressions
or body language. A great post that we all needed to hear!
