Ben,
I do that too but then I still go back later and change things, sometimes only one word. I guess I'm being hyper-critical. BTW, I liked this sentence a lot: The essence is changed when the mood has left.

Ann and Ben write and rewrite
a particular poem
at one sitting before posting.
The essence is changed
when the mood has left.

Hi katray,
so it's some of both then...birthing brilliance vs. crafting a masterpiece...hehe.
Hey, where do you find out about poetry contests??

Poet wings lmao?
Naw.. I think everyone has a different way of writing. I suspect it comes to you but you critique yourself until you feel it's perfect.... I like your work! You're already a poet..

Hi Quirky
Yes, same for me, when the flow turns on, I just go with it. Pretty fascinating really, to see what is created. Of course, sometimes words that aren't actually words (derobe, lol

) appear, but I do edit those poems I choose to enter in contests or use in my ongoing book project. Edit and delete them from here.

Ps...
I also write them down in notebooks and transfer them over the years. Sometimes a word gets changed here and there but sometimes they'll stay the exact same.

Some of my favorite poems come about in 10 minutes.
It just seems to flow. If I have to overthink one, they usually turn out horribly.
