Interesting.
Love the photos.  I watched a squirrel use his tail like a monkey would when he was hanging upside down, eating seed from a bird feeder.  I didn't know they would do that, but your blog has enlightened me on that, among other things.  Thanks for the fascinating info and pics.

ErinL, that's very cool of you to have raised her. It's a big
responsibility, isn't it? Tired? Sleep deprived? I hear ya. One question for you, though. How old is she now? It may be time to release her. Does she know how to nest, hunt for food, etc. now? Cause if so, she's ready to leave. Especially if she's "a handful" cause they start getting really distructive inside the house. They HATE being confined. They are not good pets. Let me know if you have any questions.

Aw, thanks, Pecan! Hope I am making her proud! But really, I do this
for the animals. I truly believe that WE are their voice and as the evolved human species, it's our duty to aid, raise, and care for them when nature cannot.

Kay-Ren, HA!! That's funny! I know, they do look like little bats in a way!
Especially their ears.

Symph, yeah, they are cute. 'Cept when they're crapping in my hand
as I am feeding them. No biggie, though. It's like little tiny pieces of poo and it doesn't stink. It's a hell of a lot better than things that have landed on me at work!

Sorry to hear that, Hollee! Squirrels are just such keewwll little animals!
I'd miss having them around, too.

auntyholly, Yep. Spitfire's Flying School has just opened
since this is the first time raising infant Flying Squirrels. I plan to leap off of the roof of my house while they watch. After that, it's up to them.

Hi -  I am raising a baby squirrel, too.  Well she's not that much of a baby any more, she's almost full grown.  I've raised her ever since she was 1 week old.  She fell out of a tree and was almost eaten by my mother's dog.  I do have to admit, she's a handful, now.  I love her anyway.  It is so good to hear someone else loves animals as much as I do.     Erin

So wonderful
Every time I encounter a new animal species to care for I look at as an adventure! The Goddess has blessed you and you return her blessings to her creatures.  I love you so much for that.

I'm sitting here going, "Ah, that's so cute!" and my spouse is reading over my shoulder. He says, "Yeah, and the next update is going to read, "I was wrong again. They are VAMPIRE BATS!" LOL

Spit - they are so adorable - I haven't any squirrels close to the house
the woods are so far back in the yard - I miss feeding my little buddies like I did in the city.

They are SO cute!
At what age do they 'take off'? Is there a SpitFire flying school?
