jems, It made me remember that Dad taught me to stand up for the under-
dog, collect stray animals, fight injustice  visibly and loudly and write, write, write......just as examples. All memories are not sad and the good ones are the ones that make smaller and more grateful tears fall softly.

Actually Beachbelle
Your idea was good too.  But I have been writing nearly every day here on Blogit about him.  I am going to start a journal, though, that will be filled with letters to Daddy.  My psychiatrist suggested I do that so as to keep him close to my heart.

See I suggested writing something too but not nearly so creatively
as dear Abuelita. Wonderful idea and not too, too mournful if you know what I mean

Abuelita
What an absolutely wonderful idea!  I'll try to do that!

ookrana doesn't know you, she's new in your space here....maybe she

could read a few posts back.

What I did, Jems, was take a large jar with a lid on it, paint MY DADDY on the glass front of it and then, once a day, or when I was particularly sad,  I would sit and write one small memory on a flash card and put it in  the jar. A year later, we read the cards out loud at my mom's house. I made everyone laugh and cry with my memories. They liked the idea and I left the jar at Mom's house and they put things in it now, too. It is a HUGE pickle jar.

keeping dad alive...........

you do not know me.....and it is not important that you do....however....i am interested in your NEED, to memorialize your dad....so, i wonder, how long ago did he pass? Additionally, is your mother alive?.....And if she is, do you think you loved him more than she? Please, take no offense...your words tweaked my curiosity.....

                                                           take care

Jemmie
flowers and candles are good but equally good is writing something inspired by your memories.
I never had a shrine to my dad - it is in my heart and head

I agree with Laroux and would also add that you might keep fresh flowers
nearby as it is always a nice remeberance or offering - however you wish to look at it. Great idea!  red

I think what ever makes you feel good when you look at it or reminds you of him or a little message for him on a tiny piece of paper rolled up in a scroll tied with a beautiful little ribbon. Make it so that you feel comfortable and happy and close to your dad when you spend time there.
