So terrific
Good luck with your remaining squirrels.  What a wonderful thing you are doing.

auntholly, they are now about 3 to 4 weeks old. In this pic, about
3 weeks old. They are starting to get more and more furrier and their eyes should probably open within the week. They're pretty close to opening now.

Amazing!

At a guess, how old are they?

JFC, Whammie, no wonder me and you get along so well...
Sick little f'ers we are. Anyway, baked, not fried in my opinion.

SpitFire......now I will make you angry with my sick sense of humor.....

The little creature looks tender.......I wonder how he would taste fried tempura style and dipped in a Szchewan Peanut Sauce......?

[Sorry!!!!!!  I AM JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!]

Thanks Wham! Glad you got to see it.
The Pony just wants to sniff them, but I have to be real careful cause she sniffs so hard! They are only as big as the size of her nose! She means well...I think.

LOL. That little baby squirrel wouldn't make a dent in this wolf's hunger pangs. Not even enuf for a teeny tiny snack, is he?

Symph, you can't hug these little ones, well, at least not yet!
SPLAT! That would be messy.  Of course, you can have the every 2 hour feedings, if you're volunteering yourself!! Symph? Still there? Hello??

Thanks David1S, but it's always touch and go with these little ones.
I've lost plenty since doing this and it's always sad. The thing I have always kept in mind is that the ones that do make it and go off to live  happy squirrel lives make up for the pain of losing some. It's a very hard thing to dedicate yourself to doing, but they're worth it to me. Oh, make sure those 5 friends of yours aren't being fed peanuts with salt. (Just a little FYI) It's so nice of you to feed them.

Symph, I know! They are very cute and they already have
little personalities. One in particular is an escape artist. I don't know where he thinks he's crawling off to, though!

posted by SpitFire70 on October 6, 2004 at 1:31 PM | link to this | reply

MiaE, sometimes it's hard to hold them!
They are so small and so fragile. The other thing is that when I'm feeding them, they tend to wiggle around and it's hard to keep the feeding syringe in their mouth. I think they instinctively move to try and nurse from different nipples or something.

Wolf-Girl, you want to eat my baby squirrel, don't you?
Well, ya can't. I won't let you. Sorry.

Spitfire
Awesome pic. I have 5 "regular" squirrels out back. I feed them a ton of peanuts, which they promptly bury in my neighbor's yard. Last year one of them had a litter of 4, but they all died. It was sad as hell. Glad to see yours made it!

Oh the dog is adorable but the little baby squirrel looks like a hairless rat (but I'm sure it's cute, too!!).

Isn't it, BuxomW? My Britt is so gentle even though she's
so intimidating looking! (Well, she's gentle with me and infant squirrels, but just look at me the wrong way and she isn't so gentle!)
