benzinha, I am so happy to hear that she's sticking around for a bit longer
You know it is her choice/decision to do that. I'm glad you're more at peace with all this and so is she. This is the time to treasure the most. I've been thinking about you a lot lately; ever since I read your first blog about her condition.

spitfire, exactly what I feel, that she is going over our past as I am.

She stares at me more often and I sit and stare at her more, too. We both are washed with love as we do this and we are washed very often now, sorrow cleansed by the washings.

My Makeda has decided to stay awhile longer, and I think that it's because neither one of us realized that we hadn't even begun to speak of our love, one on one, and needed her near death to start the conversations. We speak of love day and night now and there is something sweet and kind filling the house, garden and our lives this month. I am so thankful for this little bit extra, this smaller piece of heaven, which fills my life and home just now.

In appreciation of death and its good, we can now separate from each other peacefully and fine. I pray that she passes in my bed some night, and it is my most fervent prayer of this time of life.

Thanks for this posting and the comfort that it brings.

Kelli....do you still have the 3 squirrels?
Are you trying to rehab them? PLEASE let me know cause if you don't know exactly what you're doing (not saying ya don't) you can cause them more harm than good. It's not like rehabbing a kitten or pup! Much more involved. Please contact me if you have questions on feeding, caring, etc. Good luck!

Whammie, you are WONDERFUL for doing what YOU do!!
I can't express that enough. In my field of work, we rely on you and animal control to persue and prosecute these assholes that are cruel and abusive and neglecting to animals. I can't tell you how much it means to me to hear (read) what you did for that dog. I think those mother-Fer's that fight Pits and the cockfighters should be, well, I really don't want to say what I really think should happen to them, but legally, I wish they'd get tougher on them. It takes people like you to help...and you do. Thank you, my friend.

Thanks for reading it. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm more than sure you do, Hollee!
We don't always think about how much we mean to our pets, but to them, we are 98% of their world!

Thank you so much MiaElla.
I appreciate that very much. I just realized something when reading your comment. I hope this post didn't come across as like, a story for cheap applause or anything, ya know? I really intended for it to be just another day in the life kind of thing. I felt like shaing it cause it had an impact on me. Oh well. Thanks again for reading it.

I am a voice for the victims, you for the animals!!!!!

There is a law on the book against Cruelty to Animals, and several of us have persued criminal charges against perpetrators of this crime.

We got a lady convicted, because this poor dog was confined to a porch no food no water and the area was covered with feces.  We took photos and the judge was outraged!!!!!!

Judge went our way on that one!

SpitFire.........we have to give Mark2556 credit for Blabenate!!!!!!

I remember that poor dog that was chained to a tree, and it was 4 AM

He was terrified of me at the same time that he sort of wanted to trust me.

I got him some roast beef from subway and gave him my bottled water in a cup, but I knew that in his fear, he would have taken a piece of me had I tried to get any closer.

ASIDE:  It is more prevalent on the east side, but they have pit bull dog fights.

In the hispanic areas they have cock fights.  Why is mankind so often so cruel?

And the doggie living in the funk the other night seemed to be loved, and his living conditions were no worse than those his owners chose to live in.....

Oh Spit - lovely. Thumper is my constant companion and brings me so
much joy and laughter and comfort. I hope I do the same for him.

SpitFire70,
Your stories always give me goose bumps. It's wonderful what you do, both in writing and with animals.

You are very, very welcome, lovely one :) xxx

PS: Dang  typos ... I meant to say when I'm 'scared' at the drive-in back there, not 'sad', oops :).

Much love to you and your beautiful Britt girl xxxx

BuxomW, "murmury-grrrs"? I love it!!

I truly love all animals and I wouldn't continue to dedicate my life to them if I didn't. Even though the past 15 years of doing this has brought on much pain, anger, and sorrow, it also has brought me joy, positive outcomes, and a great sense of accomplishment. The positive outweighs the negative and that makes it all worth it to me.

Thank you for your sweet words. I got all teary eyed here. I can't tell you how much it means to me that you think of me and my Brittany.

This is just beautiful and how lovely you are to share your heart with

someone sharing a grief akin to your own. You and Britt are always in my thoughts, Spitfire, everyday I think of you and send all the peace and love I have within me your way.

I truly believe our beloved pets gaze at us that way, too. My little dashy, Bronte, will leap onto my lap if I'm feeling sad and nuzzle my face and press her cheek firmly against mine and make little 'murmury-grrrrs' that are almost like sympathic soothing noises. When Ian and I are watching tv or a movie (we go to the drive-in, not the cinema, so we can take her with us :)) and I become sad, again, she's on my lap barely before I register my own fear. I treasure her so very much and I am so glad your Brittany has a Mom that loves her as you do.

My sweet mysteria, you are the most poetic person of simple words
I've ever known. I'm proud to know and admire you.

Oh, and Whammie, I love the term "Blabenate"
That's a new one to me. I will also go find your post on euthanasia. And, as far as animals having no voice, I am proud to be a "stand-in" to be their voice.

Oh, Whammie, I'm sorry I made you cry!
Yes, I have seen much, if not every emotion possible from animals. Anger, fear, saddness, confusion, pain, happiness, comforting gestures, understanding, pride, persistence, thankfulness, love, and surrender. I'm sure you've witnessed much of the same in your line of work, too.

when i think of a spitfire i think of those passionate kisses

that spring from intense lust that have you drinking one another

Spitfire.......I started to comment.....until I began to really Blabenate

and my comment turned into a blog on the merits of euthanasia.

Just because animals have no actual voice, does not make their pain any less real.

I am willing to wager that you have seen animals shed tears of sorrow and pain!

Yes, so true.
I miss my lost pets as I miss my lost humans, just as deeply and forever.

 A beautiful story.

I, too, am crying buckets.

Spitfire, you are such a wonderful person.  I hope that someday we meet in person.

Perhaps somehow my dad knew his time was near, and so the last time we spoke he made sure I knew he loved me (I never doubted it).  I told him I loved him as well.

Now, I just have my kitties to comfort me . . . and friends like you and the others here on Blogit as well as the few true friends I have in life.
