As a newbie
I'm new not only to Blogit but also to blogging in general, and so your customs are strange and unknown to me. I am still not sure which fork to use, and sometimes I use quite the wrong idiomn altogether. In mashing links I find I sometimes leave two or three of something, or nothing at all (I'm not a Luddite, just having trouble with the UI here for some reasons). So when I got some quick, glowing responses I was overwhelmed, and immediately said so, and apparently exposed myself as a greenhorn blogger. The people who liked my prose and poetry apparently don't like my politics, and vice versa, but I'm already hidden insidea computer; must I wear a mask, too?

Hi Angie,

No one has offended me, more like perplexed!! This was mostly an attempt at humor, please don't take me seriously. Maybe I need a disclaimer on my post??

Stay safe!

Hello Quirky,
I'm not very proactive on blogit and I apologize if I've ever made you feel this way. The truth is, I'm not around often. I hope you have a nice evening, and I hope I am not someone who has offended you. You may or may not hear from me again, you know... there's this giant hurricane not to far from me. Take care!

Tyto,

Ah well...you haven't been around long enough to see the

"fun" turn into a rip-roaring, mud-slinging extravaganza, lol.

Jemmie,

I'm not worried, hun.

I meant this as humor mostly, with a touch of irony. My favorite!!

E-Shock,

Yes I noticed you've been gone quite a bit,

but I always knew you'd be back!

In the vast scheme of things...

I read more than I comment on. Often I am impressed or touched by a post I have read, but cannot think of an approprite or worthy comment, so I ignore the pressure to comment, because you're right, it can sound cheesy. But I do like to return a compliment (I feel rude otherwise, and often a comment left for me draws me to a damn good read)

It doesn't really matter if it's all lies or cunning game-play, 'cos it's all jolly good fun!

I know where you are coming from
I have wondered that same thing quite a few times. I think it could be that there are so many new bloggers and trying to read everybody becomes overwhelming at times. I sometimes read without leaving a comment. That is not good either because the writer doesn't know you were there. I can honestly tell you that I am a fan of yours. No speech needed.

It's happened to me!

No worries hun!  I think it happens to the best of us! Listen to your own advice which you give in this paragraph:

It perplexes me…but only an itty-bitty bit. This IS Blogit after all, and anything can (and usually does) happen. It’s best to roll with the punches lest your brain explode from trying to figure out stuff like that!! But has it ever happened to you?? Please tell me I’m not the only one…

Keep your head held high, for you are an amazing writer!

Poor Rocky. He's harmless. Unless you are a gopher, then watch out. He takes no prisoners cuz he eats them! Uh, yuck, did I just say that??

Yes I would Quirky, but leave Rocky at home, okay? Not too sure about that cat, lol, a little too tuned in on us mere humans...just joking, he'd pounce quick on any errant mice or such, hehe..

katray,
Yes it's wise to be cautious when you receive that kind of adolation (except from me, of course. You know I'm harmless, right? You want to meet me in a dark alley sometime? ).

He "left" in a storm of anger and controversy unfortunately. And I was on his outrage list because I couldn't condone or defend his outrageous behaviour toward another blogger. He had a website where he had posted one of my poems and was going to post more (with my permission) and he pulled my work off with a very haughty, unkind flourish. Beneath the surface beauty (in appearance and amazing verse) lurked a truly troubled, wounded soul. I learned to be very wary of the extremely lavish and devoted.

posted by Katray2 on September 4, 2004 at 10:18 PM | link to this | reply

not all of them go away...

I'm still clicking, though, I'm not sure I ever actually lavished praise...I probably meant to, really.

Anyway, I believe writers (including people who blog and are in denial that they are writing) are a strange breed...there is no way to predict their (err, our) thinking!!

katray,

well, nothing wrong with lavish praise and devotion, right?

But then did he just disappear one day, slip quietly out the back door...or did he tell you he was going?

posted by Julia. on September 4, 2004 at 10:05 PM | link to this | reply

Quirky....
It's very, very easy to 'lose' people on Blogit. I'll read something, decide I really like the writer (think I've added it to my faves) and then notice after many days that I can't find the writer and don't remember their name.  It does happen!  And, yes, what you have described has happened to me too....Kinda puzzling I'll admit.

posted by word.smith on September 4, 2004 at 10:05 PM | link to this | reply

LOL, yes, it has happened to me and then they show up weeks later.
Go figure.

In the same vein of thought, I'll share an experience I had here about 9 months ago. A certain male blogger (long gone by the time you arrived) began reading and commenting on every little brain rumble I produced. He said things like: "Surely you're a famous, published writer/poet, who are you REALLY??" and lavished roses, hearts, etc. on every line almost. And the e mails, oh my. I took it all with a large dose of healthy caution, but damn if it didn't inflate my writer's ego just a tad, lol... okay, more than a tad...

posted by Julia. on September 4, 2004 at 10:00 PM | link to this | reply

Been there, felt that...

and it does suck.  I was just in the middle of composing a post that touched on a possible reason for this scenerio.  Something about becoming chummy with a certain blogger, and then finding out you hold completely opposite beliefs.  You get friendly over your humor blogs or something, so you try out one of their political or opinion blogs just to find out that you are nothing alike.  Can you still be friendly and ignore your differences, or do you simply slide away quietly in search of something closer to home??  There's probably much more to it than that, but hey who can ever tell what goes on in a blogger's head around here...

Write On!  ltlmac70 wuz here...

tremacc,

I know you do!!  Hey I got a rose, so I either moved you

or you thought it was funny as hell, right?? (I was going

for humor, in case that didn't come across on the screen.)

posted by Julia. on September 4, 2004 at 9:49 PM | link to this | reply

*Sigh* Yes, it has. Perhaps for a very few, it is their way of trying to get their own blogs read and if you don't respond quickly or positively enough, they move on, leaving you in the dust, lol. Not very sincere, but human nature for some. Or they become too busy to be here as often and just don't have the time to comment as much. Many reasons I suppose. I try not to take it too personally, but it is unpleasantly grounding when you've been floating way up there....

StrickGold,
thanks for the lovely angel!!

posted by Julia. on September 4, 2004 at 9:44 PM | link to this | reply

Hmmm, I generally go back again and again to someone who I have enjoyed in the past.   I comment when I feel compelled to from something that has prompted me in the post.   Sometimes they don't move me enough to comment, while at other times they move me too much for words and I tend to leave roses behind in that case.    If it's funny as hell, I usually can't help myself,  I have to respond but irregardless-- I tend to mean what I say when I do leave a comment behind.

Quirky you are not alone

In the few comments that I get, many times I hear great things then I never read another comment.  I try to always comment on what I read but sometimes even I am at a loss for words.
