Ariala,
The sack lunch sounds like a mighty good idea.

David S,
Yes...but SO nutritious! Yum Yum!

The key is to pack a lunch...inside that bag is everything you need
to give you strength, courage and resiliance. You have to look inside that bag and pull out the "item" needed at the moment to empower you. We have a saying in church about the wheat and tares growing together. Some who are wheat get fed up with the tares and are ready to pull them out. The only problem with that is that only God knows who's who and if we try to pull out everyone who we consider tares, we may be really pulling out the wheat. Carry on and eat from the sack lunch :-)

ltlmac, thanks!
True enough, there are plenty of succulent entrees to be found mixed in with the maggot-meal, hehe.

Great post...

Definitely something to think about as we all try to write/blog.  I appreciate and agree with your point of view.  Still, though, Blogit does have much to offer, for those who can stomach the maggots!!

Write On!  ltlmac70 wuz here...

I now avoid those posts like the plague

I have learned, through my own bout with disgust at Blogit, whom to avoid.  There are certain bloggers who were in the habit of cutting others down regularly.  So I finally decided to stop reading those people--completely.

These days when I see people complaining about all the infighting going on here, I find I have no idea what and who is involved.  And for that, I am thoroughly blissful (my own little piece of the "ignorance is bliss" pie).

Well, if you compare it to a buffet...
there are some foods on a typical buffet that are just nasty and revolting to me that I can't even think about it too long while there or I'll puke.  But, I'll eat other foods because each food is contained and the food doesn't mix, unless it's a bad buffet.  So, I do think you can pick and choose here, it's just a matter of putting your mind to it and not being suckered into getting a taste of what you don't like.

Quirks

Happy Birthday again.  Just keep writing.  That's the thing.

Blogit is a mixed bag

When you go to the newsstand the New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal is there along with the NY Post and the Inquirer, the Star and Globe. Penthouse and Mad Magazine is on one shelve and People and Time are on another, you select what you want to read.

Do we want writers here that look like they came from cookie cutters?

And thanks for plugging me for writing "thin-skin whiney-ass crab."

Below is a quote from your post.

"If you don’t like what someone writes, fine. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you click on a post. No one is forcing you to read a word."

Sounds like good advice to me.

As one of the bitches on Blogit,
I have to disagree with you.  When New Yorkers debate, there is always an edge of sarcastic wit intermingled with their argument.  It is part of the fun and humour of the debate.  Did you ever read the debate on the Constitution?  Talk about barbs.  Or pick up a copy of Harper's and read Lewis Lapham? What about literature?  Have you ever read Dorothy Parker?  Maybe what you perceive as "maggots" is really caviar.  And think about every important social movement in the history of civil liberties.  Righteous anger is the fuel for change. Think about the union wars, the abuse of labor.  Being nice did not end child labor. Being nice doesn't draw attention to the critical issues that mean life or death to so many Americans.

Yes, I am...
Not a perfect world in any form, Quirky. And actually, it might be kind of boring and meaningless if such a place existed on this plane. I believe we are all here; on Blogit and in the "real world" to learn and teach. Those who offend, hurt or enrage us have reasons behind their attitudes as we all do. If I can't deal with their behaviour, feel it is counterproductive to my own journey, I simply ignore and avoid. Nobody is going to change just because I wish it. I've accepted there will always be maggots present in any feast. I choose not to allow them to ruin my enjoyment or deter me from my path.

Sassy,
comments like yours almost make the nasty ones just go--poof! (And the praying is a good idea, along with writing a lot, of course).

Keep writing from your heart, and
you will go places, much further than Blogit! I love to see talent in writing, and you captured the very essence of talent with that one post. I have always liked your style anyway. I have noticed a few bloggers that will go places. I only pray that they do, myself included.

This is one of the best posts that I have read
in a long time! You hit every nail sticking out squarely on its head. You have definately been eating your Wheaties with no sign of maggots on the side. Outstanding thought process coming from a great talent.

Cadence,
I agree with your boyfriend...he's not talking about the "why did the chicken cross the road" joke but "jokes" that are at someone else's expense. It's never "just a joke."

Spitfire,

It's gone beyond comments and now into the posts, so it is a little hard to "just ignore." And I wasn't even referring to anything political, which always stirs things up. A chill pill would be a great invention.

hmm

i agree that there is no room for mean spirits in this and in other worlds, but they do exists and the question is how to deal with it, personally and socially.  I don't know the answer to either one.  I wish  I did.  But I'm not ghandi.  I try to live by the Golden Rule as best I can.

but my hmm was for the fact that this is the second time I have seen the phrase "put a sock in it" in the past two days, which is quite fascinating.

And now, for a bit of constructive criticism -- I think the phrase "take a chill pill" has appeared enough recently on the Blog  that we can retire it to the realm of cliche.   But maybe I should just chill out.  Fair nuff.  tg

An ex-boyfriend of mine used to say that there is a little bit of truth behind every joke.  This used to drive me crazy because I felt like I couldn't ever kid around with him or tease him.  In cases like this, however, when the joke is just plain nasty, there is truth in his saying.  If you have constructive criticism, fine.  If not, put a sock in it.

I don't know why some feel the need to be so damn nasty in a comment.

It is not only rude, but immature and unnecessary. Unless one is commenting on a blog that applauds the KKK or child rape or something, I can't understand such hostility. However, we can expect many mixed emotions when it comes to politics, mostly. People get really worked up about those types of topics, but still, so many comments lately are seemingly quite harsh. Some just need to take a chill pill and agree to disagree...politely.
