It is extremely annoying for many, Keri!
If a blogger is "honest" about the post, it should be in the  "lists and information" category, but sometimes, they're not.

I've only been here at blogit.com for a few days, and it IS highly annoying to click on a blog and find that it's just a list of who they read. I want to read (and pay for ) quality entries, not just dull, boring lists.

Thanks Wiley Dad,
I'm certainly happy I can rant and make you feel better in the process!!

Fell better for venting?! You always do it in such a nice eloquent way!

Kay-Ren, no need to feel stupid!!
It's one of those things that ya don't think about cause you just assume no one would do that. Once you see some of the negative happenings around here, (you know the happenings I'm talkin about) then it makes ya think about stuff like that. At least that's how it was for me.

Cherrydidi,
Actually, I do know all about you, or at least from your Blogit profile. I read it before I even typed a single word to you. "Kiddo" was just an expression, not an insult. I can see how it may have sounded like that to you, so no offense. I love being called kiddo. Makes me feel younger again. It's too bad it doesn't mean anything to you to discuss this; not that it's an issue to be discussed, but still.

posted by SpitFire70 on August 5, 2004 at 3:10 PM | link to this | reply

It never occured to me, I am feeling stupid for this, that the lists are probably changed/altered. DUH!

i havent read it but im glad, i wasnt mad or judgding, you are and certainly in your comment

i mentioned your name to  let readers know onwhat i was commenting, i spoke in general, i didnt (mean to) pick on you or anyone, i was just stating my case

if youd TAKE <TIME to read myjournal, im sure youll get what my life isabout

im a newbie here but not to bloggers

i can say im not young and  idont not a kiddo, you are way out0 of the line here, you dont know anything about my lifeexperience!:(

i have enough of discussing this,it doesn't matter actually

buxomW,
In all seriousness, you make the choice out of strength. Many souls choose never come back into a physical life because it's so hard here. It takes guts, and you got guts!!

posted by SpitFire70 on August 4, 2004 at 5:48 PM | link to this | reply

PPS: So true and funny in the sense that my first thought was
pretty much "oh God, why?" too re me making that choice .

Thank you, Spitfire ... wow, food for thought indeed ...

the fear thing makes so much sense and I think I know what that particular fear may be. Thank you for answering with such thought and insight - I truly appreciate that .

PS: LOL re "Lord knows why" ... so true!!!!!!

posted by Moohahaha on August 4, 2004 at 12:57 AM | link to this | reply

My sweet buxomW,
From my senses since I've "known" you, I can honestly declare you are indeed an old soul. However, you will choose to come back again after this life is over (Lord only knows WHY!!!) but, you will. But, not for too many more. You have a few more things you will long to experience. Many were achieved 2 lives ago that you lived, but the next will be to overcome your greatest fear that you shall never (sorry) fully overcome in this life. The one after that will be to achieve the next level of fear above the one you are currently trying to conquer here.

I think the comedian analogy is a very apt one ...

I much prefer to read actual posts as opposed to lists. It's nice to be read, for sure, and very nice for people to let you know they have read you etc - it's equally true though, in my opinion, that a comment that reflects your post has been read and thought about means the most of all. I couldn't agree more with you on this one :).

PS: I'm very intrigued by the 'old soul' things you speak of ... I'm wondering - and hoping if this is okay to ask - what kind of soul do you think I have? An oldie or a newie? I'm truly very interested in all the whys and wherefores of such soul stuff :) xx.

T-99, I understand, but I have to disagree with you here...
No one "needs" to post a dist list whether they're a newbie or not. I never have. As Quiky said in her comment, she has yet to post a single list and said, "That should be proof enough you don't need to post a list to get your other blogs noticed. Reading and commenting works wonders..."  No one needs a tramatic life experience to blog about to get reader interest. Hell, we ALL have some horrible life experiences we could soon or have already written about, but just reader interest and good writing in general is what makes it; here or anywhere.

Very good point, mariantonia!
That's why I think we are a unique "community"

posted by SpitFire70 on August 3, 2004 at 11:43 PM | link to this | reply

Yes, but Quirky - your situation is unique.  Not everyone has the backlog of emotions to drain onto a page that you do.......you didn't *need* to post anything like a distribution to make your name known because your revelations were enough to shock people into remembering you.   Normal newbies have to work a little harder to get some name recognition.

Your comment is right on the mark. Couldn't have said it better.

David1S, well, I too have some who I consider friends here
that do post dist lists, however, since they are "friends" they know that I don't judge them for doing so. I don't judge anyone for doing so either. Just that personally, I voice how I feel about them and WHY. If you and I find ourselves less read or spoken ill of, so be it, I say. If anyone decides we are less appreciated as writers or friends or they lose respect for us over something like that, then where's the real loss?

posted by SpitFire70 on August 3, 2004 at 10:34 PM | link to this | reply

I totally agree, MiaElla, especially those that post details like

Sassyass_64 and Jimmy68! They always detail their reads! Oh, and I might as well give myself a plug here, too with Get Paid for Reading Blogs! Here's Who I've Gotten Paid to Read So Far!  and then a new and improved blog of the same concept with a follow up... Get Paid For Reading Blogs! Here's Who I've Gotten Paid to Read So Far!   See, it's all a matter of effort, not just copy n' paste for easy clicks. It also explains WHY they are being read and it doesn't leave anyone out in the numberless or low-numbered for ALL to see. It's just common courtesy ethics, I say.

Holy crap, cherrydidi...

Take a chill pill, eh? That's fine that you choose to post daily lists; that's your decision. I understand how important having a journal is; especially for someone your age. It's a good thing to keep. Now, if you re-read my post, you'll see that I never stated that "I don't like lists" and I am certainly not nagging. I DO click on them on occasion, too, but thank you for the suggestion, "if I don't like lists, don't nag, just don't click." I certainly appreciate that advise, ya know, with me being a newbie and all.

Now, see my sarcastic side comes out in those last couple of sentences, however, even though you're young, you are also an old soul. Therefore, I don't release my wrath upon you. The only thing I do think you are being a bit over the top about is when you stated, "and i dont like to be spo;ken about, in generalisationg or in the third person, i dont wanna be jjudged or compared" K, holding back on commenting of your spelling and grammar, I will say if you're gonna write/read on Blogit, get used to it. You (as we ALL ARE) written about-whether in general or third person, judged, and compared. That's just life in Blogitville. We do, however, counter with respect (well, most of us) when in variance with one another or in our opinions.

Oh, and don't be sorry if I don't like you for what you said (as you stated.) I don't judge one’s character just from him or her voicing their opinion.

Spitfire ~ Many good points made. About the list posting - people will be people.

posted by mariantonia on August 3, 2004 at 7:31 PM | link to this | reply

BB,
Thanks for the comment...and the agreement! That's one of the points; who cares? I say, as long as you're enjoying writing, then does it really matter how much others are being read compared to yours?

posted by SpitFire70 on August 3, 2004 at 7:22 PM | link to this | reply

Exactly, T-99!
When you said, "when you arrive at them and discover they haven't written anything ELSE" is a very good point.

posted by SpitFire70 on August 3, 2004 at 7:19 PM | link to this | reply

Here's my take, Schatz,
Dist Lists are fine for some, but honestly, I think they're just mainly for cheap clicks...not that clicks aren't good, of course, but personally, (and THIS IS JUST ME) I want clicks for my writing, not for those just checking out if I've read them and how often. Besides, I may read someone more one week or month than the last...what if they didn't see the last? Then, they may think I'm not a regular reader of theirs. That's not fair and I don't want to give out misleading stats.

posted by SpitFire70 on August 3, 2004 at 7:18 PM | link to this | reply

I think the daily list is going a little too far. I've been here 3 months
and have yet to post a single list. That should be proof enough you don't need to post a list to get your other blogs noticed. Reading and commenting works wonders...true, it takes longer, but still...I guess it's a personal choice.

posted by Julia. on August 3, 2004 at 7:07 PM | link to this | reply

WTG Spitfire!
I have ranted way too many times about those distribution lists. But many of them are my friends, so I just kindly thank them and move along! Watch, they'll get mad at me now and stop reading me (maybe even you)! It would be hilarious if in a couple days our names aren't on them anymore......LOL

posted by David1Spirit on August 3, 2004 at 4:24 PM | link to this | reply

Dist. List...
are only good when they include writing with the lists...some people are very witty about posting lists and mentions of their favorite bloggers.

posted by MiaElla on August 3, 2004 at 9:16 AM | link to this | reply

I like to be read
and appreciate the mention when they do but I really don't care about lists.

okay, i post daily lists, why? to let my name be known so they see the link to my journal, i dont give a damn about penniers, but i give a damn about my journal being read a lot. i cant live without my journal, its my best bblog, its  all i care about, truly, if you dont like lists, dont nag, just dont click, im happy if they click my name so they see i have a journal :'(

and i dont like to be spo;ken about, in generalisationg or in the third person, i dont wanna be jjudged or compared

im sorry f you dont like me for that

Distribution lists are a GREAT way to get read.  The problem comes when you arrive at them and discover they haven't written anything ELSE.

I haven't ever posted a dist list before but was actually contemplating it tonight.  Thanks for the sermon on the amount....you have deterred me from it with good reason....THEY SUCK!!

My main complaint is if I put in a search for SpitFire70, all I will get is distribution lists.  How can I weed out any relavent news I need about a blogger when that's all I ever see is who read who.  Grrrrrrrr....
