Location, location, location . . .

As the old Hollyweird saying has it.

I write in all sorts of places--everywhere.

The serious work gets done at the computer but, before that, there's a LOT of old-school handwriting.  My favorite form.

I find the computer intimidating and unnatural.  Handwriting is much slower, and enters you into time and silence.

Sometimes I sit under a blanket with my flashlight and write.  Otherwise I'm just out and about with my little notebook!  Although I've had writer's block lately, so maybe I need to find a new place to write.

Distractions are deadly
To the process. Unfortunately, I find myself easily distracted, by the stereo, by the phone, by the dog. One would think a beautiful setting would be the perfect place, but probably a locked, soundless, windowless vault under a rock somewhere would be best for me. As it is, I just try not to let my train of thought derail too much, even if The Who is jamming at top volume...

I live in a mobile home with a very spoiled cat who is either on the computer, on my lap, or on my feet. My computer now sits in the living room in front of a window until I can build bookshelves because the second bedroom is filled with boxes of all my books. That room will eventually be my office. Unless, these nice people will take pity on me and let me live with them. I have always dreamed of a home similar as you described. Rustic and sitting in the middle of the woods near a lake. Shadow

I think I fell in love with that house!

The thing is . . .

if the writing consumes you, the location doesn't matter.

When I attempt to write

the location must have no outside interference. I like music, classical music and something sweet to sip on. Perfect  accompaniment to writing inspiration for me. BTW I would love to see pictures of that house! It sounds like it should be on a unique homes tour.

writing
Well, where is mildly interesting, but when is crucial.  As Buddha said, "The trouble is, you think you have time."  You don't.  Writing is a rigorous, disciplined business if it happens at all.  And the more time you spend skimming off the cream and froth and temporary fun of fragmentary things like blogs, the less actual writing you will do.  You obviously have the ability, and you seem to have the right tools.  Now, do you have the discipline?

well, I write in the converted dining room surrounded by books.
It's quiet, no music, just a fan sometimes for a slight noise of extra warmth in winter, cooling in summer..

Dances,
no favorite nook...all I need is to be alone...but I'm sure
a change of location could produce different results.
